Our Cat is Dying!!

Original post by Boop2704

Well, a while back I had posted how our cat was very sick and with a lot of vet care and TLC she made a grea recovery, but we were told she would not live a full life and they gave her 2-3 years to live. Well, it looks as though it will be a lot sooner. She is dying right before our eyes and we are completely devestated and don't know what to do. We do not want to take her back to the vet so they can poke and jab her with needles. We already know she has a terminal disease and feel it is not only mean to put her through that, but we can not afford it. She has just gone downhill this week. Very disoriented and she has lost a lot of weight. It is just a matter of time. We just don't know what to do. We were discussing tonight what we will do with her when she dies. And we both started crying, because we don't know what to do. We have never had to go through anything like this before. DH just turned to me and said he is going to cry alot when she passes. I feel so bad. I am so affraid of coming home and finding her dead one of these days. We just don't know what to do. We have discussed burying her in a pet cemetary, but we don't know how much that costs. Then we discussed a taxidermist, but again, don't know the cost and if doing that would be good for us and our other cat. There is also my moms backyard, but I feel creepy doing that and we don't even know if that is legal. We are so upset and do not know what to do. We are just trying to do whatever we can to make her happy and comfortable right now. Please pray for Miss Kitty!! Our poor baby is going to leave us soon!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat...I remember Danielle going through the same thing with her cat. One vet told her that the swelling on his hind legs would go away and he should be fine in two weeks, well not 7 days later he was getting thinner and weaker and Danielle's parents decided to put him to sleep. He was so cute....I miss Joe bee.....

I'm so sorry! My cat is 20, and while he doesn't have a disease, I see his gradual decline. You could consider euthanasia, but I know that trips to the vet are so traumatic for my cat that I would just keep him as comfortable as possible.... It's so hard, they really are family members.

Some hugs for you. DH and I know how you feel. His cat is old and has a tumor and she throws up a lot. So we know exactly what you are going through.

Re: Our Cat is Dying!!

I know exactly what you are going through. My childhood cat got cancer and was dying before our eyes. I refused to put her to down because it hurt me too much to do that. I was afraid to go into my house because I was afraid she would be dead. Eventually she was suffering so much that I could not allow her to suffer anymore. I finally came to terms that I was being selfish by allowing her to suffer like that. Putting her down was THE most difficult thing I had to do. My heart was truly broken. I cried for a long time. The only thing that gave me a little peace was that she was not suffering any longer. We had her cremated and kept her ashes so she is always with us.

Oh I feel for you. I had to put my cat down in April and it was the hardest thing I have ever done. He was my first pet and I cried for a few weeks when he got sick.

Heidla and I actually both lost our cats within a week of each other. It was nice to comiserate with her.

We're all here listening. I know the pain and it is not fun

Re: Our Cat is Dying!!

Well, I just got home and my poor baby is just lying on the bed, looking sooo tired. She is not in any pain. When we spoke to the vet, he told us she is not in any actual pain, she is just a bit uncomfortable. If it were my decision alone, I would probably take her to the vet and have her put to sleep. However this is DH and my decision and he won't let that happen. He doesn't want to let go. He has had her since before he even met me. I just feel horrible. I feel so bad for her, but as long as she is not in pain, I think we are going to keep her here with us. I know I might sound crazy, but I was just talking to her. I told her it was ok for her to go to heaven when she was ready and I would take care of her daddy. I can't believe how hard this is.

Im sorry, I can feel your pain. I had to put my beloved cat of 12 years to sleep last yer after she became very sick and was suffering. It still breaks my heart and it was a very hard time for me, I cried alot. We buried her in the yard of our new house (she became terminally ill literally days before we closed on the house)

Im so sorry.

OMG I am just in tears I know that talking to her is probably very soothing .. I truly believe they understand everything, I feel that connection with my cat.

I wish you only the best, and that when the time comes she passes painlessly and peacefully. I know how hard this is for you and your DH

Im so sorry..
coming home to a dead pet is horrible. It's happened to me. prehaps you might want to take it in? Again Im so sorry!!!

We cremated our pets.. and my kitty I sprinked into the flower bed so I'd think of him everytime the flowers bloomed.

I always get freaked out with the Pet Cemetaries. Not just because of the book & movie but they seem so very very sad and 'off' for me.

Again.. my hugs to you and your Kitty. Just be with her while you can.

I'm so terribly sorry.
Pets are such a huge part of our lives, it's extremely difficult to let them go.
My thoughts are with you.

Re: Our Cat is Dying!!

Miss Kitty seems to be going down hill really fast tonight. My DH will not stop crying. I feel so helpless. And seeing him cry is making me cry. Why is this so hard, it is just a cat?

Re: Our Cat is Dying!!

I know, I'm not saying that in a bad way, its just that I lost a brother and this is hurting almost as much. Its just hard comparing the two, yet feels the same.
