Our Kitty needs your help!!!

Re: Our Kitty needs your help!!!

I recently went away and had the same dilemma.

I heard that at those boarding places sometimes they sedate the animals, so that drove me away from that route quickly. Plus, since my kitty has never been with other animals (with exception of the vet and until we got her at 3 weeks) I thought the meowing and barking of other animals would really make her more upset than usual.

What we ended up doing was buying a dog cage (the size for a great dane!) and set it up for her. We built a shelf, an area for playing, and had her litterbox and food in there.

Then we brought her to my future mother in law's house and she lived in the cage there. She would go in and talk to her everyonce in a while, and feed and clean the litterbox (she already has another cat that is not sociable either, so my kitty couldnt roam the house freely).

We got back, and kitty was kind of weird, but very happy to see us. By the time we got her home, she had forgotten and just wanted to be held by her mommy.

If you board her, then your kitty will have other kitty friends to play with. Your kitty would like that. He/she might get lonely without you. One hour isn't really alot to play with kitty.

Cats are not social animals like dogs so they definitely have an aversion to being boarded. I'd keep the cat at home but I agree, someone should come by once a day. Can you have your parents alternate with anyone so she is visited more often? Better yet, is it an option for them to take her to their house for the time you are away? Whenever I was away for an extended period, I always took my cats to my Mother's house for a visit. They adapted as long as they knew where the litter box was.
