Over doing themes

I don't think they would think you're malicious.

But, I do think there's a difference between driving past a house with a graveyard decoration and picking up a graveyard placecard with someone's name printed on it. This is something that could make them upset during your wedding. Sure, lots of things could do that, but I think this one could be avoided.

Honestly, I would never have thought of it until I attended a party where some of the guests lost a loved one.

If someone dies I'll drop them. I'll make them a week before the wedding, therefore I can avoid the mistake.

IMO I think the gravestone cards are a little to much, kinda scary to have something that goes at the end of your life, starting your new life together, If you like it ok, just think its to much.

I think that you should be careful with so many themes. If you can get them to work together well, it could be great, but if it's not right it will seem disjointed. I think your medieval theme is a great starting point. You can easily incorporate fall colors into that theme. As for the pagan aspect, I don't know enough about it, but I'm sure you could work it in as well.
As for the placecards, I agree with some of the other girls that it may be too much, but if you love them pay no attention to me. I did see this photo on the themes board which I thought was a great idea for a fall/Halloween wedding without being overbearing.

LOVE the pumpkins as well.

I'm not a big fan of the graveyard placecards for a wedding but i LOVE them for a Halloween party. I might have to steal that idea sometime!!!

I think that you know your guests and they know you. So if you do use them, I don't think it will be such a shocker. But I wouldn't make everyone else dress up in costumes. What if soemone came as a bride and grooom?

(I didn't mean any disrespect there... just a little humor)

I like the gravestones better. Sorry but I fell in love with them. Did you ever see something you just had to have?

i'm not making anyone dress up, however we suggest our guest dress up in medieval clothes. Our friends are cool with it and so is most of my family. Most are excited, before I even suggested it, several people asked us if they could dress up too.Our friends are just as crazy as we are!

Re: Over doing themes

My friend had a medieval theme wedding and it was really pretty. She got married at Condre Hall and it fit the theme to the tee. I wished she had us dress to that theme too. It would have been fun!

What if i made theses edible? Then it would be a cookie placecard. Do you think that would be better?

gravestones are a bit dreary IMO but if you like them, then go for it. Fall is a beautiful time of year and you got lots of 'themes' you can take advantage of.

personally, I think you should do what makes you and your FH happy! It's your day! Period. If you want to have 50 themes, go for it. If you want to jump out of a giant pumpkin. Do it! Who cares what everyone else thinks. It's your wedding and personally, I'd far remember something 'different' and 'original', like a halloween themed wedding, then a more 'traditional' theme wedding!

ps. I think the gravestones are cute and acceptable for a halloween themed wedding!

IMO, yes you can overdo it on the themes. I think that you can easily and tastefully pull off a subtle underlying autumn theme (inspiration for colors and foliage decor) along with any ONE of the other themes you mentioned. I think using all of them is too much. JMHO.

I don't care for the placecards for a wedding at all, but it sounds like you fell in love with them. So if you love them, you have to have them. This is one of those times where you have to go - screw what everyone else thinks, this is ME and I'm doing it cause I love it. So go for it.

I think that the gravestones are cute too. . . I don't know if I would use them for a wedding, they are a little dreary, better for a halloween party I think. I think that the pumpkins are nice and go good with the autumn, medieval theme. But go with what you like best.

What does a pagan cememony intail? I don't really know much about it.

Maybe what I could do is have the ceremony pagan and medieval of course and decorate with autumn flowers. Then throw a wild halloween reception? The autumn decorations will go with the halloween ones. If everyone is dressed up it would kinda go. What do you all think? I know, I'm bad!

I think you can definitely over do a theme...but in all aspects I think you should do what you want.
I think Autumn and halloween kind of go hand in hand, you can have a theme of just autumn and keep halloween out-but itis kind of hard to keep the autumn out of halloween...does that make sense?
I say go for what you like and what you want. I personally would be a little wierded out by the headstones but if you have to have it-have it. It is your day and you arent going to make EVERYONE happy!

Good Luck

Re: Over doing themes

I was never a fan of themes at all . I think that is heavily influenced by the fact that I am Jewish and have seen SO many themed Bar and Bat Mitzvahs that to me it is out of place to have a theme at a wedding. Color schemes do not bother me. But color schemes are not themes. I completely respect anyones desires to have themes, but to me, theme weddings don't work. I am pretty darn traditional. Whats funny is that there are things I am doing for my wedding which are not typically done at weddings I have ever been to - slipper baskets and even programs. Jewish weddings oftentimes do not have programs BUT because FH and I have so many guests who are not knowledgeable of our faith and customs, we are choosing to do a program that explains the rituals and customs so nobody feels alienated. Go with what pleases you but dont be surprised if people don't share your pleasure.
