I have no problem with our parents living close by, but they're not going to live with us, though I know FMIL wants to.
My step-mother's father lived with her and my father for 15 years, and toward the end pretty much everyone resented him. My brother and sister couldn't stand to be around him (he was always criticizing them), my father couldn't stand him, and my step-mother was a nervous wreck because she felt horrible that she resented her own father.
In my opinion it's not worth all the aggrivation. He moved to a retirement home that is about a 20 minute drive last May, and everyone is much happier. There are less fights, and my siblings don't mind seeing grandpa as much since he's not around all the time.
When I mentioned FMIL wanting to live with us they both turned to me and, in unison, said NO.
I really don't want it to get to the point where myself, FH, or our future children cannot stand to be around their grandparents.
