Would love to get a feel for this, even though everyone's different. Past brides, can you tell us future brides who are scared about their guest list being too big (like me!) how many people you invited and how many people you actually had at your wedding? Did the 20% rule apply to you?

Re: Past brides: how many guests RSVP'd 'No'?
We invited 339, had 258 say yes and then 5 no shows on the day of (luckily I had thought about that and told my hall 5 less on the head count so it worked out perfect).
I will say that the majority of my no's were '& Guest'. Most of my single guests did not bring someone with them.

Wow...this is really surprising! I would have thought that there wouldnt be so many no's...I hope that all the the guests that we invite end up not coming! And I hate to sound like that but I really dont want more then 150 people. (We are inviting about 180)

Re: Past brides: how many guests RSVP'd 'No'?
I have the opposite problem. I don't want that many no's! We have to guarantee 200 and all of our guests are out of state, 1/2 in NJ and 1/2 in MA. I don't want to pay for people who aren't there!

Re: Past brides: how many guests RSVP'd 'No'?
I'll add mine 146 invited (4 where more of a last minute invite) 120 RSVPed Yes 4 no shows and another 4 people left after the CH (don't ask) So, I'm at about the 20% decline rate, BUT I didn't do STDs. Make sure that you take any declines from the STDs into account.

Re: Past brides: how many guests RSVP'd 'No'?
I'm really interested to see which of our guests will be coming. We sent out STDs, but a lot of our guests are OOT and a few people we dont expect to come but would love it if they did. (Ex: FH and I met freshman year of college, and we are inviting our freshman RA who we still keep in touch with, but she's in London right now)
I want to send out my invites now lol i am so impatient
edit: we are inviting 300+ but our minimum is only 160. we are expecting ~ 235

Invited 206 Guests 201 RSVP Yes, But '199' Attended the Actual Wedding So we had '2' No Shows 5 No's
You only got 5 no's???? 7 in total did not attend - that's only a 3.5% decline rate! WOW.
Well, we started with a list of over 350 people. Yes, We cut our list once then twice, we just had way too many people on the original list. We were happy with the results, it put us where we needed to be in essence of our quota of 185+, so we did wind up with 199 and paid for 201 ****NOTE: You have to be aware of the fact that if you invite every single relative, local and out of state, you probably will not have everyone attend. We don't have that huge of a family, but in no way did we want to invite our cousins, sickly relatives, relatives that we don't really know well or parents friends who we dont know, There was just no way this ways going to happen. Some brides and grooms do that. We only invited a few people overall from out of state, we didn't want anyone to incur the large expensive of traveling to our wedding. So future bride and grooms, be aware if you invite every one you know, you can then expect more no replies in general. We wanted a wedding where we had a close relationship with every single guest, we wouldn't of had it any other way, but then again, we paid for our entire wedding by ourself. So if your parents are paying, you may have to have certain people there that you don't want. Its different for every couple. Good luck girls.

Re: Past brides: how many guests RSVP'd 'No'?
We are about 30% No's. I would say 1/2 of the 'no's' are our friends not bringing guests, and the other 1/2 are OOT people who were already traveling for Easter and Passover, (my date is right in between those) and they couldnt make another trip.

Re: Past brides: how many guests RSVP'd 'No'?
we were SO worried about this because our guest list was HUGE and as the bride u really can't imagine anyone saying no lol...but thank god they did! we invited about 265 & we hit our exact minimum of 225. (used two vendors to fill in spots so we had a total of 223 actual guests). a huge tip if u need people to say no, DONT DO SAVE THE DATES! i would cut ur list as much as u can (as hard as it may be) because u really never know! our good friends that just got married only has TWO people say no!! keep in mind their parents were important people, but still! and i saw the above poster write the same thing.... so just be careful & try to cut where u can. our original list surpassed 300 by a mile - luckily we cut it down to 265...and again - don't send out save the dates! good luck!

Re: Past brides: how many guests RSVP'd 'No'?
I'm scared. We have 235 on the list and have also guaranteed 200. How many should I invite to safely have 200 people? I don't want to go overboard....

Not to sound mean, but I hope i get lots of No's lol. We went over our guestlist sooo much
Me too!!!!... This thread is making me a feel a little better. I really wanted no more than 150-175 to attend. I think we will likely be inviting at least 225. I hope it works out!

I couldnt agree more about the STD's - I just sent them out a couple of weeks ago, and I am really regretting it. But since we are getting married Thanksgiving weekend, I kinda hope people will have plans, and cant attend.... I really didnt want a huge wedding, but FH insists on inviting the world.
