In the last month I've been to 5 photographers all of whom I could see myself booking in the long run. I enjoy their work, the albums are beautiful and the prices are more or less the same all around.
Just for clarification I've been to: -Pro-Line Studios -Patken Photo -Velvet Studio -Duet -Silverfox
I'm at the point where I'm just tired of seeing photographers but in the back of my head I know that there has to be a reason that I haven't booked someone yet or haven't been totally in love with any one place.
Am I being too picky? How many photographers did you see before booking? What prompted you to pick the photographer that you did?
I know that all the studios that I have been to do what I want...a mix of posed shots with mostly candids and they offer mostly the same things. I just don't know....I was going to go with Patken but when I went for the appt in late March they said they had very limited time open for my date, which makes me worry that if I pick them and go to put down a deposit that they will be booked and I will have to start over again. I also really loved Silverfox (the people and their work) but their deposit is much more of the total balance then most places....but I really don't want that to be the deposit amount to be the deciding factor....
Everyone's work is running all together in my head and I just need some help and/or suggestions to help me seperate and decide. Any input at all would be soooo awesome...

hmmm see thats what was happening to me when i was looking at photographers work, they were nice and did great work but nothing really was setting them apart. After a while it was like hmmm ok thats another nice picture.
Maybe check out a few photographers sites and see if anybody will WOW you...if not then go with one of the photographers you met that you believe will give you the most, had the best communication with, loved their style and felt most comfortable with

I think I looked at 5 photographers as well. We ended up booking with twelfth night. We booked them because we really like their work. They outsource the album so it wasn't based on that and the packages don't include half as much as other photographers were willing to throw in yet we still kept them into consideration. We really chose them based on their work, I was going to pick the photographer who offered the most but in the long run we decided to go with the photographer who (in our opinion) had the most talent. HTH!

Re: photographers...sorry little long
i looked at the online galleries of almost every photographer in NY!!! I would browse through each gallery...and if nothing captured my attention within the first 10 pictures, I crossed it off the list and went on to the next one.
I didn't want a photographer where i needed to go through 50 pictures to find 1 that i thought was really special. I wanted a photog that could grab my attention right away.
It helped me to do it that way because if I looked through the entire gallery, every picture started looking the same.

I just had an E-Shoot with Jay from Duet and I would recommend them. I will post my proofs when I get them. I also like Velvet's work. You should check out Camacho's Community album page. Here is a recent Duet wedding with gorgeous PICS:

If you really liked patkin I would go there and try to book them... If they are full then go to silverfox. If the price is going to be around the same than it shouldn't matter what the deposit is going to be, just think about how many people you are going to have to pay the day or week of your wedding... Just think of it as a few less dollars you need for then.

I picked Patken because I heard so many good things about them and I really like their work. I then found out that my cousin used the same guy I booked for her wedding this past September and loved them. After getting my engagement pictures done I fell in love with them all over again. They made me feel more confident about choosing them.

Re: photographers...sorry little long
'07er crashing...we saw a ton of photographers and the thing that kept turning us off was the attitude some of them had...the pictures were OK but they acted like they were the best f'ing photographers in the world and kept going on and on about how you have to have a certain 'vision' and how great they were. when we met with Dom at 12th night, it was so refreshing to speak to a normal, down-to-earth person who let his (amazing) work speak for itself and spoke about the people in the pictures instead of the pictures themselves. you could tell right away the passion he has for his work and how much he loves doing what he does, and it's obvious in his pictures. all of the photogs there are so talented.
in the end we booked with 12th night, but the only other one in the running was another one that wasn't full of attitude. i think that was a real deciding factor for us in the end.

we met with 3 - ******** - too much $$$ - glenmar- too pushy/yet inattentive also - duet- just right- we didn't book on the spot - we went back a week later.
sounds like to me your first pick is patken- call see if they are booked- they will tell u over the phone -so u wont waste ur time going down there or nothing. then it sounds like your second is silverfox - so GO FOR IT!!! you can also play with the price- call all these people and tell them who else you are interested in and see if you can lower the price- since you like them all equally - who ever is available and gives you the best deal-and is nicest to you on the phone. thats how i would do it!! good luck !

I love my photographer Tony Ferrari Studios. What I love about them is they have photos that wowed me as well as the price and quality I loved as well. I actually fell in love with Franklin Square Photographers but they were very pricey and waay out of our price range.

Oh wow.!!...I wouldn't know what to do without you girls...you are all so incredibly helpful and good at difussing stress
About 12th Night: I actually have an appt. with them next Wednesday. I'm giving myself one more week (and ONE more week ONLY!) to make my final choice. FH and I are going to sit down tonight and look over all of the quotes that we have recieved so far (and look thru some websites too) and see who our top two are (Patken and Silverfox were MY top 2, lol). After I see 12th night (and maybe one or two more suggested by you girls!!) we will sit down again and make the final decision.
I find it so silly that I get momentarily stressed by such small stuff but I guess that's what we are all here for.....support. Thank You girls for all the input, I will definetly keep all the things you've mentioned in mind (and I will annoy FH with it!!)

I feel your pain!!! FH and I looked at 6 different photographers. It was torture pro line cassarino silverfox sherwood triart leli photography classy candids I honestly loved sherwood but they were much more money then the rest ...well for what I wanted in a package they were more money. Last night we finally booked with classy. FH's cousin works in the catering business dealing with plenty of brides and he recommended we check out classy. We met with them last night and they gave us everything we could possibly ask for and for a reasonable price. I was happy with there work it was not sherwood but they exceeded my expectations with what they offered us. so WE BOOKED!!! My torture is finally over. If you want to look at classy FM me and I will give you there info. They were very helpful!

I liked duet and velvet best. I like the way the pictures and albums seem to tell a story of the day. Duet was booked for my date so I never met with them.
