Well its been almost 4 weeks and my ankle is still swollen, not as bad as when it first happened but the top part is still pretty swollen. I am so annoyed because for the first time today I tried to put heels on and i really can't even walk in heels at all, not even one step. To bend my foot that much hurts ALOT. I am so mad and frustrated right now. Out of all times for this to happen, couldn't happen at a worst time. I DONT want to wear flats for my wedding, i want to be able to dance, its something i love and to not be able to really do it at my wedding will S*CK!!! whenever i think of my wedding i always think about dancing most of the night and having such a great time.
Even now, i am trying to figure out what to pack for when i leave friday but meanwhile i cant even wear most of my shoes. Theres one pair that have a low platform heel that feel OK but doesnt go with anything i have. Do i wear flip flops with everything? Ive sacrificied so much with the wedding, and i finally get to go away and just leave all the stress behind but meanwhile i have to deal with this BS. I know theres worst things in life, but i dealt with so many ups and downs during this planning processing, i want to be carefree on my wedding day, having to constantly worry about my foot just annoys me to think about. UGH just so upset about this right now so needed to vent, having my moment and yes i know i should be thankful for other things but sometimes you can't help it.
I was reading more online about sprains and how bad it is depending on your symptoms. Well considering I tore a few ligaments and read that if its minor swelling goes away in a few days. If its grade 3 the worst kind it will take 4-6 weeks well im almost at week 4 and yup still swollen. Ive been told by others that i probably need physical theraphy and reading info seems like I might.
My question is with 3 weeks of physical theraphy, would that make a big difference? for something like this how long would i have to go to physical theraphy. I am going to make a 3rd appt with the doctor but anything else that i can do to help it heal quicker?

Re: physical theraphy questions
Physical therapy does wonders. I would say deinfielt got 2-3 times per week up until your wedding. You'll see improvement!
Also, not sure if they'd give you a cortisone shot to the ankly....I know when I'm in a lot of knee pain they do that for me and it feels better. Check with your Dr.
I've gone to two physical therpists in the Forest Hills area if you need info. Both were good.
HTH.
One more thing... .

Man, Denise. That stinks so much. I'm so sorry.
I don't know anything about physical therapy...but I did want to tell you - do NOT risk making things worse this weekend. Wear flip flops with everything. Make yourself as comfortable as possible. If you TRY to wear platforms or anything like that I think you could make it worse.

Thank you, i would really like the names of the 2 you went to in forest hills, that would be very convenient. The good thing is May 2nd is my last day at work so ill have more time to go to physical theraphy.
I'll definitely ask about a cortisone shot, that would be very helpful if they can
Thank you so much

Re: physical theraphy questions
Get a script from your primary care doctor (or specialist if you've seen one) for: PT EVAL and TREAT Find a local PT clinic and call them up for an appointment as soon as possible Depending upon your insurance they should be able to see you 3 times a week. FM me if you need anything I manage a PT clinic in PA

yeah i agree.. and the cortisone will help reduce the inflammation and swelling, therefore reducing the pain... try going as soon as you can so you'll see if it works for you.. hope it gets better soon!

Re: physical theraphy questions
So Denise, what ARE you wearing on your foot everyday? Do you have a cast on? Do you put on shoes at all? How are you walking? I'm confused.

Re: physical theraphy questions
Hi, I'm in PT school right now- you would definitely see a difference after 3 weeks of PT. First and foremost to get rid of pain and swelling and improve your range of motion, and also to strengthen your foot / ankle. To be honest insurance probably wouldnt cover much more than that (maybe twice a week for 4-6 weeks), but your PT will give you some stuff to do on your own also. FM me if you have any questions I can help with!

Re: physical theraphy questions
I feel horrible that you have to go through this right now. It really suucks. PT will definitely help. I made significant improvements with my knee when I went to PT but you MUST do the exercises they teach you at home as well. Keep your head up. You will still have such a beautiful and amazing wedding and will have an awesome time in Vegas

Re: physical theraphy questions
Definitely look into the physical therapy. It will help a lot for your wedding. It won't be able to do anything for Vegas this weekend, but help a lot for your wedding.

i have an aircast on now and i can put a sneaker over it but on the foot part its a thin band that goes around and starting at your ankle it gets thicker so sneakers are fine.

Re: physical theraphy questions
I know that this is the worst time that this could happen, but stay as positive as you can. I'd sacrifice heels and wear flip flops ALL weekend (sneakers when possible to) to let the ankle heal as much as possible by May, so that you can wear the heels you want for your wedding. The weather will be gorgeous in Vegas and flip flops will be more than appropriate. Hey, ask your girls to pack flip flops and you should ALL go out and party in them! I know that you will make the most of anything that goes your way and know that ankle or not, you are going to have a blast this weekend!!! I'd go to physical therapy as much as the recommend and hang in there........you have time to build up strength in your ankle....sports people do it all the time!!!!!
