physical theraphy questions

Original post by Espo22

Well its been almost 4 weeks and my ankle is still swollen, not as bad as when it first happened but the top part is still pretty swollen. I am so annoyed because for the first time today I tried to put heels on and i really can't even walk in heels at all, not even one step. To bend my foot that much hurts ALOT. I am so mad and frustrated right now. Out of all times for this to happen, couldn't happen at a worst time. I DONT want to wear flats for my wedding, i want to be able to dance, its something i love and to not be able to really do it at my wedding will S*CK!!! whenever i think of my wedding i always think about dancing most of the night and having such a great time.

Even now, i am trying to figure out what to pack for when i leave friday but meanwhile i cant even wear most of my shoes. Theres one pair that have a low platform heel that feel OK but doesnt go with anything i have. Do i wear flip flops with everything? Ive sacrificied so much with the wedding, and i finally get to go away and just leave all the stress behind but meanwhile i have to deal with this BS. I know theres worst things in life, but i dealt with so many ups and downs during this planning processing, i want to be carefree on my wedding day, having to constantly worry about my foot just annoys me to think about. UGH just so upset about this right now so needed to vent, having my moment and yes i know i should be thankful for other things but sometimes you can't help it.

I was reading more online about sprains and how bad it is depending on your symptoms. Well considering I tore a few ligaments and read that if its minor swelling goes away in a few days. If its grade 3 the worst kind it will take 4-6 weeks well im almost at week 4 and yup still swollen. Ive been told by others that i probably need physical theraphy and reading info seems like I might.

My question is with 3 weeks of physical theraphy, would that make a big difference? for something like this how long would i have to go to physical theraphy. I am going to make a 3rd appt with the doctor but anything else that i can do to help it heal quicker?

Re: physical theraphy questions

my fiance had a grade 3 sprain, and he did rest, ice, compression (like an ace bandage), elevation and it got better in a few weeks. maybe try that.

Hi,
I'm in PT school right now- you would definitely see a difference after 3 weeks of PT. First and foremost to get rid of pain and swelling and improve your range of motion, and also to strengthen your foot / ankle. To be honest insurance probably wouldnt cover much more than that (maybe twice a week for 4-6 weeks), but your PT will give you some stuff to do on your own also. FM me if you have any questions I can help with!

OH NO I need to go ASAP then. I just quit this past week and my last day is may 2nd, now normally you should get it until the end of the month. BUT i JUST realized something today they came up to me and said since my last day is may 2nd they'll pay me for those 2 days when i get my check april 30th so this way I don't have to wait until the 15th which i thought was real nice but could it be that if they do it this way i dont get insurance for the month of may ...I thought it was all going to work out since my last day is in may and i would be covered through May, and then after the wedding i'll be under FH's insurance so it will be fine but oh no i have to find out about this

thank you so much

I know that this is the worst time that this could happen, but stay as positive as you can. I'd sacrifice heels and wear flip flops ALL weekend (sneakers when possible to) to let the ankle heal as much as possible by May, so that you can wear the heels you want for your wedding. The weather will be gorgeous in Vegas and flip flops will be more than appropriate. Hey, ask your girls to pack flip flops and you should ALL go out and party in them! I know that you will make the most of anything that goes your way and know that ankle or not, you are going to have a blast this weekend!!! I'd go to physical therapy as much as the recommend and hang in there........you have time to build up strength in your ankle....sports people do it all the time!!!!!

yeah very true, it'll be hott so flip flops will be fine. I have 2 very dressy dresses im bringing with me but whatever ill rock it with the flip flops hahaha. Hey ill put my aircast when going out too and who knows maybe it will really help with us getting into places and not having to wait on line so can be a benefit

thank you very much

be thankful that it happened now, i just broke the major support born in my foot and am in a cast getting married Saturday!!!
Physical therapy for my break is 6 weeks 3 times a week! I think the time is shorter for a sprain...HTH and feel better!

Re: physical theraphy questions

it actually happened in Vegas 2 weeks at my B party...no walking no waiting bearing! basically a gimpy bride with crutches! Could be worse though! Try to go to physical therapy at least 3 times a week it will speed up the process, i can't start PT until May 19th.

awwww i am so very sorry i dont know if it works if you break a bone but what about the cortisone shot that others mentioned? maybe that will help you somewhat. DId you have a clean break? my fh broke both his ankles, different times. The first one he was in a cast 9 weeks and thats the one that still bothers him. The other one he was in a cast a short period of time and was up and about not too long after, he did say that they did something a bit different than when he went in with the first break. Ill find out from him later what it was maybe it will be helpful

Re: physical theraphy questions

DeNISE if you want the swelling to go down in time for your wedding try acupuncture.,
My left leg has gone down quite a bit in only 3 weeks., go for a consultation and see how it will help you to heel in time for the wedding.

i probably wont be able to wear heels at all in vegas, it hurts just to even put my foot in heels. I put it a pair on before and the moment i take one step i limp while taking that step and kinda lose control of my foot its weird so no matter how hard i tried i wouldn't be able to but ill be careful no matter what even in flip flops, thank you

i feel so bad for you and yeah its just doing stupid little things that can lead to this

Thank you!! I can't do cortisone but they did give a Bone Growth Stimulator that sends electric impulses to help heal faster. So i'm weraing it about 20 hours a day!!!
Feel better!! you have plenty of time to heal to be careful and stay well

Denise I feel bad that your foot still hurts you. I hope you have a good time in vegas regardless if you'll be wearing the cast or not (which may be a benefit).. In any case just be careful that you dont hurt your foot again and undo the last 4 weeks of healing only to start again. it happened to me and that was horrible I had to wear a big ugly black camwalker boot thing. But Have a kick a$$ time in vegas
