**PICS ARE UP!!** Might have found THE place! But...
It's an inn in Connecticut - a two and a half / three hour drive away. Everyone who comes would have to stay the night. But the inn is gorgeous! And not too much money. And it's in the Berkshires, so there is a ton of stuff to do right there - boating, swimming, golf, hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking... it's perfect, really. It would be a vacation for everyone - with a cool wedding right in the middle. It's exactly the kind of wedding I want. I'm only having 70 people - our closest friends and family. Considering all that... is it obnoxious to ask people to travel up to 3 hours for my wedding?
**Update: I added pics to my albums. The place we loved best is the Wake Robin Inn, the 2nd album. I didn't photgraph it as much as the other one. Oops. Anyway, check it out!!**

Not at all! I don't think it's obnoxious. My FH's best friend's brother got married upstate and we went - not even related to the guy! Dest weddings are fun, no matter the destination.
Plus they're your closest family and friends, they know you and your personality and I'm sure they would LOVE to attend your wedding in CT (you don't strike me as a 'typical' LI girl)!!! Go for it!!!

You can do what the celebs do! Make it a 'weekend' wedding... Like a 3 day celebration! FUN! People will totally travel. The way I see it, it's at least a day off from work and it's a party! I'm always willing to travel for a wedding! Do it!

Re: Might have found THE place! But...
Thanks so much for the encouragement. You're right - I've been to mini-destination weddings before, driven 3 or 4 hours, stayed overnight, and never complained. I guess I'm just a little nervous now that I've found a place I really love and might actually book it! The pressure! I took a tour of the inn and the grounds with a girl who worked there, but the events coordinator (actually just the inn's owner) wasn't in, and I'm set to go back in two weeks so I can talk budget with him. You'd think a country inn wedding 3 hours from NY would be cheaper - it's SO not. Maybe I'm just nervous because I love the place but I'm worried I won't be able to afford it, and this way, I can be like, 'well, it was too far away anyway...'.
So, thanks again, and i'll keep you guys posted!

**PICS ADDED!!** Might have found THE place! But...
Okay, I created 2 albums of the places we saw on Sunday. The Stonehenge Inn in Ridgefield, CT looks so gorgeous in the pics. That place is less than 2 hours away, and it's beautiful, but there's not so much to do in the area. Still, we liked it a lot and am going back with my mom for a second opinion in 2 weeks.
The second album is of the Wake Robin Inn in Lakeville, CT (in the Berkshires). I just felt the 'this is it' feeling when we pulled up the driveway. The ceremony would probably be on the front lawn, with the inn behind us. I didn't get to take pics of the banquet room, but it's a lovely shade of green, kind of a sage. It opens up to a deck, which is partially covered by a tent, which is where the coctail hour would be, and probably where the bar would stay for the duration. Oh! And i also didn't take pics of this, but it has a nice, wooded backyard with a a fire pit so we could have a bonfire the night before or after the wedding, and have a party right there at the inn and make smores and stuff. So much fun! It also has a pub which they would close off to the public, and make it 'our pub' for the weekend, keeping it open till 4 in the morning if we liked. PAR-TYYYY!!!
I guess I have a clear favorite.

It's very beautiful I don't think people would mind the drive, you should definitely go for a food tasting.
