Pigs in a blanket

Original post by Goldi1021

So my sister just made the menu for my nephew's Bar Mitzvah and the caterer, my nephew and my BIL had to convince her to have pigs in a blanket on the adult side of the cocktail hour. It killed her to do that. So I told her people like them. So who cares they are hot dogs. Id much rather have one of those than have bruschetta or a mini lamb chop (though I am having those two but thats besides the point). Who is with me on this???

Re: Pigs in a blanket

If shes anything like my sister she is refusing them because they look as if they could come out of a box in your grocer's freezer. No, they don't LOOK elegant at all. But anything in a 'puff pastry' also comes out of a freezer as does much of what is being served as horderves (sp) at our cocktail hours with the exception of fresh veggies and other things.

I have been to Oheka Castle weddings and followed the damn waiters around b/c of the pigs on the tray!! Long live the pigs!!

Re: Pigs in a blanket

You MUST have those. Our caterer told us that whenever there are parties without them, people are always asking about them and waiting for the tray to come out. Some places started calling them 'franks en croute'.

I'm not gonna lie....I asked my caterer to add them to my menu as well...I think they called them 'franks in puff pastry'

My Hall told me that pigs in a blanket were so requested that they had to add them to the standard list. Everyone is into comfort food and doesn't always want gourmet. JMO

Mmmm, I love those!!! Had some at the MacArthur Radisson show last night!!

I've heard some caterers call them the 'groom's appetizer' bc it's the one thing that the guys insist on as must haves for the CH. Except my FH doesn't like them and he eats everything, so go figure!!

My FH insisted that we have them at our wedding

Mine too, it's one of the only thing that he has really wanted, so even though I don't like them, they will be there
