Planning to attend your Cocktail Hour???

Original post by trishandeli

Hi LIW Brides,

Are you planning to attend your Cocktail Hour? I know so many brides who skipped their cocktail hours to take pictures and regret not being at the CH.

I would feel bad making my guests wait for me since my church is in Queens and the reception will likely be in Nassau or Suffolk. However, I don't want to miss a moment of the partying!!!

If you are planning to attend your cocktail hour, do you have a sample timeline for your wedding day that you can post or FM?

Thanks!!!

2:30 church ceremony in Huntington area
6pm CH at Danfords in Port Jeff, a 45 minute ride away.

To kill time while our BP took photos before the CH, some of our guests went back to my parents' house for light refreshments, and many of our OOT guests went to Danfords early to check in or stroll around the village.

The wedding day goes by so fast. I encourage you to attend your CH! I am so glad we did!

Re: Planning to attend your Cocktail Hour???

Our plan is to eat by ourselves in the Bridal Suite (I'm seriously bringing a robe to put over my dress so I can eat) for a half an hour or so then going out to say hi to everybody. I want to eat first because I'm worried that we won't be able to eat anything at the CH since we'd be busy talking to everybody.
ETA: Our Timeline
3:30 Mass
5:00 leave church
5:45-7:30 pictures (not sure where yet)
8:00 CH

I hope to! I think we're going to make it and we might come miss the first 15 minutes or so.

3- 4:30: Church (in Bellmore- on the south shore Nassau)
4:30- 7:00: Drive out the Wading River/ Get my pictures done.
7-8: Cocktail hour
8-12: reception.

What do you think? Will I make it? We have about an hour ride to get to East Wind.

We will def. be attending atleast part of teh cocktail hour. Luckily we are having the ceremony and reception at the same place. We will be taking some of our photos b4 teh wedding and the rest during the first half of the cocktail hour. I intend to get in atleast 1/2 hour of yummy delights (esp. the filet mignon carpaccio)!

I missed my whole CH. I didnt mind too much since the main party was during the reception. All the CH really is is food, and usually someone brings you a plate of stuff anyway

Hell yes!!

My family has told me time and time again, do not waste a lot of time taking pics during the CH and reception or you'll miss everything!!

My cousin was so busy taking photos with us during the CH and the beginning of the reception that we missed a lot!! It was annoying especially when her DH's family couldn't get their sh*t together for the family pics!!

We are scheduling our day as follows:

1:45 - 3:45 for pictures of BP and immediate family
4:30 - 5:00 - ceremony
5:30 - 6:15 - CH (About 20-30 minutes for extra pictures of extended family & such)
6:15 - 10:00 - reception

We are hoping to attend the cocktail hour but it all depends on traffic and how quickly we get to the hall to take pictures.

This is our dilemma as well. We really want to be there but we are cutting it close.

FH and I are still discussing this issue. I don't believe in the whole superstition regarding groom seeing the bride before the wedding, but I really want to see the look on his face as he sees me for the first time coming down the aisle. We can't have pictures taken at the ceremony site/catering hall before the ceremony b/c there is an afternoon wedding taking place before my evening wedding. Therefore, I would have to find another location for pictures anyway. The more we discuss it, the more it looks like we will be taking pictures during cocktail hour.

Yes, we are going to attend the cocktail hour, but we are taking the formal pictures before the ceremony

We are hoping to make it to the CH, but we probably won't get to. We aren't taking any pics together before the ceremony.

Ceremony 7
CH 7:30
Reception 8:30-12:30

We're probably going to miss the CH because of pics.

I attended my cocktail hour and was soooo happy I did. I greeted my guests and talked to all of them there and then partied during the reception. I still walked around and socialized at the reception but didn't feel like i HAD to!!!

We didn't want to miss our CH so we made the decision to take pictures and see each other before the ceremony. We took pictures at Planting Fields from like 2-5. Took some pics on the beach at the hall and then had a 6:30 ceremony. Even though we attended our CH, we spent most of the time greeting guests and didn't actually get to eat much. But it was great because we didn't have to make rounds at the reception.
