Please give me your opinion on this cake? (with pic)

Original post by springsandra

Hi gals! I could use your opinions on this cake I pulled out of a magazine a while ago.

I know it says 'Winter white' on the headline, but I absolutely LOVE it for my July wedding... It's a little hard to see in the pic, but it's a very smooth cake with small flowers on the sides in very simple shapes. They're in white and pale green.

My colors are mint green and lavender, so I was thinking of having them make the flowers in mint and lavender and white, or maybe having them do lavender rings around each layer.

Any ideas or comments welcome and encouraged! Thanks y'all!

ETA: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your positive feedback -- so my second part question is do you think I should maybe go with 3 layers instead of 4 and do a cake topper? Or do you like it just as it is?

I love it! And I think your colors will go wonderfully. The layers would depend on the amount of people you have, but remember that top layer is yours

Oooh, I forgot about that!!!

Our RH makes our cake, so I'm going to ask how many layers we get and how big it will be with our expected party. I hope they can make this for us! I showed it to FH and he likes it too! Yay!

I think it looks beautiful!!!! I love the 4 tier look but I also like cake toppers so I'd be inclined to say do both!

I'd say keep it at 4 layers with no topper - this puppy is stunning enough I wouldn't change a thing!

I love it how it is but if you want to do 3 tiers instead i say go for it but with a topper probably like one of those crystal sprays.

Something like this maybe

That's a beautiful cake with a very intricate design! Make sure you get a quote first with the cake designer. They can charge ridiculous prices depending on the labor for the cake. I did a winter white cake also for my wedding. It was a 3-tier winter white cake w/ raspberry preserves & lemon butter cream. The cake was gorgeous, it was done by Cara Linn Cakes, Inc. it had cascading flowers around the cake with a green ribbon and gold beads. Pics are in my wedding review. My wedding colors were mint (sage) & gold. I would not recommend doing a fondant cake for your July wedding due to the humidity and heat. It will melt right off your cake unless you have refrigeration at your venue. It depends if you want to put a cake topper, if you want one then stick with the 3-tier. If you have a large wedding party then go with 4 layers w/ no cake topper.

The cascading flowers on your cake were just lovely!

As far as fondant vs. some other material, I'm going to let the RH who is preparing the cake decide which would be best. I figure they're the experts, who am I to tell them what to do! Everything is indoors for our wedding, so the heat and humidity shouldn't be a factor, but I guess you never know.

Thanks for the advice!

Ooooh, Gloria, that's a nice idea! I never thought of a non-traditional cake topper. When I think of cake topper, I always think of the same things... porcelain, hearts or letters.

I was also thinking of something like this since it's mostly clear and wouldn't really detract from the cake, but might make a nice momento... not that we won't have enough, though...

That's a very nice cake topper also maybe with only the names though because the hearts may distract you from seeing the beautiful detail on the cake.

Hope to have helped
