Plus sized brides maid! please help me.

Original post by amy&anthony

I did want my bridesmaids to match, but Im not sure what to do... I have 5 bridesmaids. one is shorter and plus size and the rest are string beans. Are there any type dresses that would look good on them all. I want them all to feel comfortable too. Its a hard subject so Im not sure what to do.

I do love the Bridal Suite of Centereach! They are my favorite! Then Bridal Suite of Patchogue as long as you have an appointment. ( I didnt realize in the beginning I needed one LOL) Carol was nice but the rest were kind of upset with me it seemed.

This was my BM dress. It was a Jim Hjelm dress. My sister, who was my MOH, is plus size and the dress looked really good on her as it did on all my BM - one of my BM was 7.5 months pregnant and it looked great on her (not in this pic).

ETA - my sister is on the right with the dark tan.

It was the same tyle but you just added straps or were they different styles? Where did you get them and how much. I like those :) They complemented all the girls :)

The dress came with the straps but we had my sister tie them up halter style to make her stand out as the MOH and the other girls tied them around the back with the long chiffon bow hanging down. They all loved the dresses and I think they looked great! I don't remember the style number but if you go to the Jim Hjelm website - and put in the material - radiant chiffon - they will come up - there are only about three dresses in that material so you will find them right away. The color is tranquil.
Any place that sells Jim Hjelm dresses can order them for you but I got them at Lynbrook bridal because they gave the girls each 10% off.
The one thing is - the front is very low cut - that's the way it naturally lies - but as I said - everyone seemed pretty happy in them! I have a lot more pics in my review with the BMs if you want to look on the review board.
ETA - the dresses were $200 and with the 10% off - $180.

A-line and dropped waist are both good features. While I personally love ribbons/belts at the waist, I found that some of my girls-- plus sized and smaller-- weren't comfortable with that.

Belsoie--B2 makes a few cute jackets that you can order separately. If you get them sheer or in a complementary color, it shouldn't be a major issue to pair them with a different designer's dress.

Good luck!

Look at ariadress.com and check out the 'albums' page to see how the dresses look on real bridesmaids. Lots of brides use different dresses in the same color and fabric for their BMs.

My BMs with their incredibly varying sizes will all be wearing the same aria dress, except for my pg fsil, who'll be in a similar aria maternity dress.

Also, keep in mind that 2 piece dresses may look nice, but make the BMs who are bigger uncomfortable since if you raise your arms, the top rises and then their stomach could stick out.

I speak from experience in being plus sized and in 6? weddings now. DEFINITELY a-line,- empire waiste, and darts (seams) down the front of the dress even with the bust. There are alot of pretty styles out there. And on behalf of a plus sized person that was forced into a strapless straight dress....Thanks for thinking of everyone!

The last wedding I was in I was a size 28

I hated the dress I wore, however went with it, because the other girls were all size 0 ( I didn't even know you could be a size 0) to about size 10. I figured I wouldn't look good in any dress so I kept my mouth shut. I couldn't try on the dresses, but did know however, that something too flowing..or soft looking doesn't show curves that much. Try some fabrics that are a little stiffer.

I know it is a touchy subject matter. Don't worry. Maybe you could try going dress shopping with her alone and ask her what she would prefer.

P.S. After that wedding and looking at the horrible pics, I changed my tune ( I didn't want to feel like that as a bride) and as of now I have lost.....

116 pounds and am a size 14.
