Poll: Bridal Party

Original post by divabride

With all the added expense of what the bridal party incurs participating in the wedding, do you still expect a monetary gift from them at the wedding? Just curious.....

I am not expecting gifts because all my BMs live in outside NY and have to pay for airfare, hotel, rental car, etc. I do not expect a gift and told them not to get me one.

I don't think any of my attendants would NOT give a gift. They have all been in so many bridal parties and know what is involved in terms of expense. If they couldn't afford to be a part of my day, I would not have been offended. It is a lot to ask of someone. However, my BP (the adults) are well established women in their mid thirties who own homes and have savings accounts rather than a 22 year old fresh out of college looking to MAKE money.

I put some yes and some no, but I think everyone will give me a gift.

The 3 that are married already I was really generous with.

The other 2, one is in grad school and the other a college freshman, so I don't know about them.

With the cost of the tuxes and gowns and bridal showers and bachelor/ette parties, I don't expect anything..... but I would love even just a card from them!

I have to say-all of my the girls I will have are all different when it comes to finances-though I dont expect one from any of them the cost of being in the wedding is enough for me

1 of my BMs is still in college, so i don't expect a gift from her. her mom will give a gift from the whole family. same with my cousin, who doesn't make a lot of money. and some of my BMs will be newlyweds and won't have a lot of money, so i will understand if they can't afford a gift after paying for the dress and stuff. my wedding is for sharing the most important day of my life, not for gifts.

Everyone in my BP with the exception of my neices is already married, so they know the costs involved of planning a wedding so I doubt they will be coming empty handed. That, and I was in some of their weddings and gave generously even though I couldn't afford much at the time.

The only exception might be my best friend, because she got married at city hall, and therefore doesn't really know how this whole wedding thing works!!
