Poll: Catholic Mass vs Ceremony

Original post by KSquared

Catholic brides, are you doing a mass or a ceremony?

I'm not really sure how much of a difference there is, I don't know if I've ever been to a nuptial mass, but my FH is all about having the mass, not just the ceremony, any input?

Ok, I think I'm going to stick with the full mass. Both families are Catholic so that was never an issue, but the more I read what you girls say and think about it the more I realize that the only reason I would be against the mass is for other people, but they can deal with the extra 15-20 minutes - or they can stay home

I wouldn't worry about boring the guests or about non-catholics. First of all you need to remember that people invited to the wedding are not obligated to attend the ceremony and just so you know not everyone will. Many people just go to the reception. So if they decide to go to the church it was their choice and they know what to expect.

Also, if i am attending the church I would NEVER expect the couple to do something for my convenience and the rest of the guests, they should do what makes them happy and what they truly want. This is one of the most important day in a couples life and some people have been waiting for it for who knows how long so i would hope they do whatever makes them happy and makes this a magical day for them. If that means a full mass then I would respect that, so I would hope someone would respect my wishes. ALso, we are doing something important for our loved ones, I am not willing to disappoint our families.

Alot of brides freak out about the gap between ceremony and reception and then things like this. People go to weddings all the time and deal with this and know what to expect. You can't please everyone so don't worry.

We're having a full mass, we are both Catholic and wouldn't have it any other way.

To me this is the most important part of the day. Our full mass will last between 40 - 50 minutes. It is very important for us. Its the only way I want to start our wedding. Like some of the previous post said, the difference between having one and not having one is not very big, also it's your wedding, no one elses. People aren't stupid, they know what to expect when they go to a church, temple, whatever.

We're doing the full mass. The priest said it only adds about 10-15 overall to the ceremony. Also, in FH's church, where we are getting married, if you do the ceremony a Decon marries you. FH and I both agreed to do the mass because we wanted a priest to marry us because we felt it was the 'right' way to get married.

We're just having the ceremony. The mass is too long for us, and we're just not interested. The ceremony is good enoujgh for us.

We wanted to start off right and we felt that it was necessary to do a mass.

Boring guests should be the last thing on your mind when deciding between the two. You have to remember it is your day to make special. If you believe and want a full mass do it.

My personal opinion the wedding day is all about the ceremony so you should make it as special as you want and not worry about the time. The party is in celebration of the ceremony that took place of joining you as husband and wife.

We're having the full mass. We both wanted it that way. I like the idea of getting to spend a longer time at the church. And my parents and brother (a priest) definitely really want a mass too.

I was originally going to do a full mass but when i first met with the priest.. he talked us out of it! Crazy huh?? So we're just doing the ceremony.... We are both catholic but neither of our families are very religious.. i really only go to church for weddings so I probably wouldn't even know what to do being up there and all lol. Do what you want though.. who cares about the guests :)

we are just doing the ceremony. FH and I are not very religious but i would like to me married in a church. instead of the hall. Also his parents are very religious and would be very upset if it wasnt in a church. so we are going to have it there but not do a full mass, Plus we are havign a daytime wedding and the RH starts at 130. we have people traveling for pretty far so we didnt want them to have to get up extra early for a fulkl mass, and we want to take pics in between the ceremony and RH so we will have the church at like 11 be done with the ceremony and church pics by 12 then off for more pics untill 1:30 then off to my RH!!
