Do people really care if you hand-write their names and addresses on the invitations?
I have never even noticed how my addy was written on any invites i've ever gotten ... but is it just me? do people really care? is it SUCH a big no-no?

Re: POLL: invitations ... do people really....
By handwrite do you mean calligraphy? Because I would rather have a printed envelope or calligraphy than someone's handwriting. Unless it's really really fancy handwriting

Re: POLL: invitations ... do people really....
I am on the side of 'who gives a **** just print them out on labels'. I can't remember one single wedding invitations I received enough to remember if they had calligraphy done or not. It really does not matter and if some has something to say, that's really lame of them. If you have the $$ to spend on calligraphy, I say go for it but honestly, I feel most brides are on tight budgets today and your guests can't realize that than whatever.

i thought it was ettiquette to hand-write all names & addresses on envelopes ... was i wrong?
calligraphy is not in the budget so i'm talking about doing it myself vs printing out clear labels with peoples' info.

I think its another unnecessary expense, but it is very nice. I am printing the addresses on our invitations, b/c like you and I, many people do not even notice and many people I know often lose the invitation.

i've never heard of hand writing, i think most either have them printed or have a calligrapher do it

To save money you can print them yourself on the computer.

Re: POLL: invitations ... do people really....
I did my own computer calligraphy......if I didn't know how to do it, I would have hand-written them - but to tell you the truth, I've never even noticed the envelopes with wedding invitations I received.

You are not wrong; it is traditional etiquette to handwrite addresses. Calligraphy wasn't in our budget either but the envelopes were neatly handwritten. That being said, many choose to have the envelopes printed or use labels and it's really up to you how you want to do it.

I don't think calligraphy is necessary. In fact, I received an invite with calligraphy that was SO bad once, and THAT was noticable. But, I wouldn't do the label thing either. Just print them in a nice 'calligraphy-like' font right on the envelope.

Re: POLL: invitations ... do people really....
Unless you or someone you know has really nice handwriting and can work with a calligraphy pen, I would print directly onto the envelopes using a printer... if both of those dont work, then resort to a label... I personally dont like seeing labels on invites...
I was going to send mine to inkspun, but i saved the $$ (they werent expensive btw) and had my mom write on all of them... she has fantastic handwriting and used a callig pen (and of course a ton of patience) and they came out womderful IMO...

Re: POLL: invitations ... do people really....
I'm contemplating doing my own calligraphy. Just to toot my own horn, I do write very nicely and that's a major thanks to my 5th grade Catholic school teacher who would rip out my notebook pages if my cursive wasn't good enough!
Although I might get lazy and say f-it I'm printing out labels! I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I'm sure people won't notice. I used a nice calligraphy style font for the STD labels.

Re: POLL: invitations ... do people really....
We did computer calligraphy ourselves and it came out great. The inner envelopes were a PITA but it saved a ton of money and look great. DA FONT has nice free fonts you can download. I would not use labels- JMO

I think you should do whatever you want, but people def do not care if you print them! its a lot easier...unless you are getting someone to do it caligraphy then it looks alot niceer too!
