POLL: Paying for wedding

POLL: Paying for wedding

Just curious as to how we are all having the beautiful weddings we are planning.

I did a poll so that people who may not be comfortable answering a $$$ question, could still answer if they wanted to...

ETA

My parents are generously paying for the reception and my gown along with the extras that go along with the gown/day of, and paying for the DOC, $$ toward shower, and tips

Grooms parents are paying for band, photo, video, and i think flowers, RD, prob put $$ toward shower

we are paying for invites, honeymoon, limos, and any of the other 'extras'

I know we are very lucky that our parents are being so generous! I am very thankful, because we could not afford the wedding we are having without them!
-and as far as being able to choose what we want we have been able to do that too...

(the reason for my post was something that happened at work with 2 friends/coworkers who are also getting married)

I don't know what everybody elses situations are, but my FI and I are paying for 100% of our wedding. I started saving a year ago and am happy to have been able to save a really good amount so far. My FI and I prefer to do it this way and not rely on gifts because you don't know what people are going to give. This way whatever we do get from gifts goes right into our pockets.

FH & I are paying for our entire wedding, with the exception of the band (which is a gift from his parents).

I'd prefer it this way as we have total say on who to book and how it will be planned.

Re: POLL: Paying for wedding

When I was a baby my grandmother started an account for me and my 2 brothers to split. I decided long ago that my share was to go towards my wedding, even tho I didn't have a groom yet! That's where the bulk of our $$ is coming from tho it's not enough! So every week I put a certain amount away and I know my mom is saving too so she can help us out. As far as I know, that's about it! Unless someone wants to surprise us with a very generous gift!!!

FI and I are paying for the wedding ourselves and we prefer it this way. Both side of parents has offered to help, but we told them that we are going to manage what we can for now and IF and WHEN we go over our budget, we will then take their offers

My FH and I are paying for our wedding with the exception of my parents paying the extra money for the Vienesse hr and my mom is buying my gown and accesories (veil, tiara etc) No one in his family offered to help, not yet anyway. All we do is save save save!

All of our parents (we are both kids of divorced parents remarried!) have offered to contribute to our 'fund'. We will also be contributing a rather large amount also... Unfortunately, we could not, even if we wanted to, go it alone. Since our families are so large as a result of our parent's marriages.. our guest list is 3X larger..... We are fortunate for the help...

My parents are paying for a lot..but his family is like 5X the size of mine so they will end up paying some.

We're paying for it all ourselves, with a few exceptions, my mom offered to pay for my gwn, if she is able to, and my sister and BIL offered to pay for flowers.

We haven't saved anything. We have like $600 in a bank account. Since the beginning of this year, all of our funds have been unfortuantely diverted elsewhere, but we have already paid $6500 to the hall, so I guess I can feel like we made some progress toward the wedding.

Re: POLL: Paying for wedding

My family is paying for most of the wedding and FH and I are paying the rest. In other words:

My family can afford X
FH and I want X+Y
So My family is paying X
FH and I are paying Y
(Y being considerably LESS but still significant than X)

I envy you. If we could afford to do it ourselves, the way we want to it would make our lives so much easier. But by virtue of the fact that my family is paying for the bulk of it, my mom is a MOMZILLA and uses the line 'all I am good for is writing the checks' WAAAAAY too much.

PLEASE don't envy those of us who are paying for it ourselves!!! I WISH I could just contribute the Y part, rather then have a 4 year engagement.

I understand the momzilla thing, which is why I didn't want Fh's family to contribute even if they would have. As it is, they want to run the show

At my age I should have the $$$ to pay for things myself. It just didnt happen that way. I am lucky to have most of it paid for but there is a HUGE difference between a 35 year old bride and a 25 year old bride. Add a 74 year old mother of the bride to the mix and there are MAJOR problems. She wants frills - I dont. I have to fight for everything. So I ask her 'Mom, what do YOU want?' and she says 'I want what YOU want.' But the kicker is she doesnt like what I want. So then the 'check writer' line comes in til I threaten her with an elopement in Vegas. Freedom of choice is a big thing at my age. Compromise ain't that easy.

Add to that FIL's who would like to contribute but have yet to and an FMIL who always has something to say about everything and is never happy. For example:

'You are having a winter wedding, you have to choose a winter color'

and I am thinking to myself, 'I do? Who said so? The wedding G-ds? Lemme call them up and ask!'

FH & I are paying for 100% of the wedding...We started to save the day we got engaged...Fortunately we have the $$ to pay for the wedding...We would not want it any other way either! I like being in the driver's seat & having all the say in who we book....

FH and I are very lucky. My parents gave us a very generous budget, and FH's parents said they would also contribute since they have much larger family. We are paying for certain little things, such as BP gifts, FH will pay for GM tuxes, and I'll pay for my girls to have hair/makeup done and their shoes. If we had to pay for everything on our own, I'm not sure could have anything other than an extremely small wedding. We make very little money in grad school.

My mom is paying for the reception and we are paying for everything else...I have to say I am a little annoyed that my FIL have not given my FI a definite answer on if they are able to give us any money....Sorry this sounds bratty

Its not like we are expecting anyone to give us money BUT we would like to know one way or the other

Re: POLL: Paying for wedding

my parents and fh's mom are splitting the cost of the reception, my parents are paying for flowers and my gown, my grandparents paid the feposit for our hall and are paying for our hotel, fh and I are paying photography, video, dj, ch musician, planner, honeymoon, and everything else!

(fh's dad, a defense atty who makes literally 20x my dad's teachers' salary, has kindly NOT acknowledged the fact that we are getting married )

but we are so lucky to have other generous parentsand grandparents!

Re: POLL: Paying for wedding

FH and I are paying for everything, except the photographer. FILs are paying for photography, which is a big help.

I am pretty happy to be paying on my own. I make all of the decisions, which is just the way I want it
