Possible HM - what do you think?

so i went to a travel agent last night with FH to start talking about our HM...she suggested mexico and FH immediately said no, so she went through all the islands and we didn't see anything that was like 'wow, that's it'

so at the end i asked FH why did you immediately say no to mexico? he said he thought it was unsafe with all of the stuff that's going on down there so the travel agent showed us where that was happening and how far away the yucatan peninsula is from there (it's like from NY to Nevada)

ANYWHO. she shows us this resort and we're in love. FH told me to book it today bc he doesn't want to lose the room lol

what do you think??

i think i'm on the fence because it's in mexico...kind of close to cancun...so i'm embarrassed to tell ppl i'm going to cancun for my HM lol

Kerri I am planning on booking here also!!!!!! The place is amazing, you would have nothing to worry about!!!!!

ETA: We were planning on booking the 2 story suite, which room do you think you would go with if you went there? Isnt that hydrospa on the balcony unbelievable?!

omg really?? i'm secretly obsessed with it- i watched like 17 youtube videos with tours/reviews of the place last night. i just thought it was weird to say i was honeymooning in cancun since that's it's notorious for spring breakers

i was thinking about either that one or the swim up room - i can't decide! that rooftop pool is amazingggg though

are you guys going to do the excellence club or just the regular section?

I just keep calling it Riviera Maya instead of Cancun Alot of people take their HM's over in that area, so who cares what anyone else thinks!! The swim up room is really nice too, I just liked the 2 story suite because I felt like I had a little more privacy. But I think it is totally up to you, and what you would use more --- pool, or hot tub. Fh isnt a huge pool guy, so that swayed me towards the hot tub room. I saw that the price difference in the excellence club and the regular was like 1,000 and I was contemplating it. I know you get a couple extra things with the excellence club, I have to think about if it is really worth the extra money to me. Knowing me, I will probaboly just spend the extra money and get it!

HAHAHAH ok, that settles it. we're booking and i'm just going to tell ppl we're HMing in Riviera Maya

i hear ya, the 2 story room definitely has a little more privacy. i'm not sure why bu FH is obsessed with the swim up room right now. i have no idea because he's not a huge pool guy either lol. i think it's the novelty of it.

btw, i've been at work for almost an hour now and i'll i've done is stare at pictures of the resort

It looks gorgeous!!!! Don't worry about the stigma of cancun. I have heard LOTS of great things about it! I think there are many places in Mexico that are gorgeous. I went to Puerto Vallarta for my Spring Break in college and thought it was stunning!!

My FH is against Mexico for our HM just because he has to go there often for work. He works for immigration.

Hi Ladies-

I was in Riviera Maya this past July and first let me tell you it was gorgeous. The people, the locals the food the heritage. And you can go into town by yourself (don't get scared) you are NOT on the side where you would be in danger. Seriously!!! I wasn't all gung ho about it at first when FH decided to vacation in Mexico but I couldn't have been any wrong. There are so many tourists walking alone on avenida 5 (fifth avenue) ..You have to keep in mind to travel to any country is the way you travel whether your going from here within the states just be cautious.

Also, do NOT be worried of how it would 'sound' that you went to RIvera Maya or wherever in Mexico....you are celebrating your life together with your hubby and it doesn't matter if you are in Mexico or Omaha

Hey there! Funny you ask this question!!!

Im a travel agent and have been ALL OVER the caribbean - I wanted to do Hawaii but its too far and FH hates flying....
SO after much thinking, i am leaning towards Mexico as well!

I am also thinking of doing either Excellence Cancun, Excellence Playa Mujeres or The ROYAL Cancun.....

It is not UNSAFE In that area AT ALL!

The unsafe parts of Mexico are by Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez, complete opposite side of mexico..... Its like comparing NY to Texas!

It will be fine! And like I said, Im considering it myself!

Just always be cautious, just like you would be anywhere else

I jstu say playa mujeres now :) We haven't booked it yet - but we REALLY want to - and flights are insanely cheap right now!

This place looks amazing, FH & I were looking into this place for our HM too. I felt the same way about being so close to Cancun but figured who cares, its our HM and we can do what we want

i can't believe you guys are planning on going there too! and thanks for the info on the difference in excellence vs. regular rooms. i thought it just had to do with the view (ocean view in excellence rooms)

Mexico is fine, just be cautious... that's all! The hotel looks AWESOME!

FH and I are in between Cabo San Lucas and St Maarten.. We know Cabo, know where to go, who to talk to, where to shop, etc.. St Maarten I've heard good and bad things...
