Re: Pre Nups
MY FI is signing a Pre-Nup...we're not rockafeller or anything (believe me!) but it's to protect the assets and real estate that my family has in my name...
He wasn't offended at all - and understood 10000%....not like he or I would ever see the $$$ anyway!

Re: Pre Nups
I wouldn't. What's mine is his, what's his is mine. We already live together. God forbid, we ever go our separate ways, everything would be divided evenly. We both put everything we got into this relationship, neither one of us has ever put more then the other into anything.

that is my same boat- we've been together since we were 19 and helped each other get and accomplish everything we have...
still, if he CAME in with more than me, then he would be within his right to protect his assets. that wouldn't bother me. I'd just spend while we were together! (j/k)

i wouldnt care at all
if i had bought the house on my own, i would have had him sign one and he would have had no problem with it either.

Re: Pre Nups
I guess i wasn't offended because, if it wasn't to work out i wouldn't want his money or anything else from him. I have worked hard in our relationship but don't feel if it ends i deserve half of what he has earned and worked hard for on his own.

Re: Pre Nups
I wouldn't have a problem signing one. Esp since he's already been through one divorce, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was a lil nervous this time around. Tho he doesn't have anything really to protect so it's not an issue. And what I have I'm not worried about, I wouldn't ask him to sign one.

Don't take offense or anything, but I've seen engagements break off b/c of this. I know we're all speaking hypothetically, but if FI refused to sign a pre-nup, I wouldn't go through with the marriage. My family has worked way too long and hard to have someone come along and take it away from them through a divorce.
Divorce is reality that we unfortunately have to face, in that there are assets and money to protect that sometimes do not belong to us - but to our families. (Such as our case.)
If it was the other way around, I'd sign it and shutup - knowing that the marriage would work b/c we belong together, not set up for failure b/c of a piece of paper.

Re: Pre Nups
FI wouldn't ask me, but I wouldn't sign one either. If it was to protect our Families assets, then perhaps yes, but if it was 'what's mine is mine, what's his is his', then no. I'd cut off my arm to give it to him if he needed it.

Oops! I meant to say 'some of us are speaking hypothetically.'
It's the real deal in our situation as well.

Re: Pre Nups
A prenuptial accord is a contract between two people about to wed that spells out how assets will be distributed in the event of divorce or death. Such agreements have existed for thousands of years in some form or another, particularly in European and Far Eastern cultures, where royal families have always made provisions for protecting their wealth.
There's a difference between 'what's mine is mine, what's yours is yours' than 'everything gets divided down the middle.'
Let's say you have a lot of assets and money(YEAH!) and didn't have him sign a prenup...few years down the marriage, DH is cheating (GOD FORBID) and you want a divorce...NOW - do you think he deserves HALF???? F-NO!
You have get a prenup to protect a specific amount of assets and money and still be fair to the other party and they can still end up with half of what YOU have (salary earned on your own), rather than the whole thing.

Thanks for the explanation, but I still wouldn't sign it, nor ask him to sign one. I work with contracts all day long, I wouldn't want to set my marriage by one. But that's just me.

Re: Pre Nups
Since we've been together 6 years through everything we have grown together, bought everything together and invested together. So, we have no need for a pre-nup.
Not sure how i'd feel if he approached me w/ that... I would probably feel hurt but we'd really have to talk in detail about it.
