PROBLEM!

Re: PROBLEM!

St. Mary's church is in Roslyn... it's really pretty but a little small. We almost got married there but we decided to go with the church in my hometown.

I don;t know of any other churches int he are but I do think it's a really big time gap. Your photographer will probably want you ready 2 hours before the church to take pictures of you getting ready and you and your family at your house which means you would have to be ready by 8:30a.m. I think if he is willing to marry you at another church than u should def go for that. What about your parish, where is it located?

My parish is in Smithtown. I love it and it has been such a huge part of my life... I pretty much grew up there b/c that where I attended school. But ever since my Grandmothers funeral I just cant walk down that aisle. It makes me to sad.

she brought up a very good point with photographers, but what came to my mind is that you will have to pay extra for the photographer. Most of them do just 10-12 hour coverage and most do 10 actually. If you do 10:30 ceremony then they would leave at 10:30pm from your reception BUT if you want pics of you getting ready then they have to be there even earlier. SO just from the time you get ready(usually they come about 2 hours before) until about reception starts thats most of their coverage, then you have to pay extra per hour. Their coverage would end when your CH starts

Yes totally a good point ....and on top of that we are having a 2 hour extended party there... I would like the photographer to stay for a little while for that so I know it will be more time as well.
Ugh!

oh then i would definitely just pick a different church. Otherwise youre looking at a photographer having to be with you for 16-18 hours and you will have to pay about 8 hours extra which can be over $1k but then you'll also have to worry if your photographer will even want to do that. And if youre also having an after party then you really dont want to wake up THAT early. It will all work out though, dont worry

I am all for a gap between the church and reception, but I think that is WAAAY too long. You always run the risk of some people not coming to the ceremony when there is a gap, but I would be afraid too many people wouldn't show. I think you need to find a back up plan.

Re: PROBLEM!

i see why its a hard choice since seems like you really want to use this priest BUT seems like you have to go over too many obstacles to get this. You will pay extra money, you have to wake up EXTREMELY early. I know some girls could do it and have done it but i know i couldnt, i didnt even get to bed until 3am the night before my wedding lol, im the worst with waking up hahaha.

I would ask him again if theres ANY way possible you can do it elsewhere bc you really cant have that big of a gap. I think once he sees that its a huge inconvenience to do it so early maybe he'll reconsider marrying you elsewhere. If not then i would just go with a different priest. Sorry you even have to choose

there have been times in my life that i actually did survive on red bull and cigs and although it can work, i wouldnt want to do it on wedding day for your bachelorette thats another story but i am also a person who has 2 redbulls a day haha

can you try st. adians in East Williston. That church is so pretty my parents got married there and my brother did too

Yes! I was thinking about that. I'm just woried about going in and being like ...hi, i'm not from here and I need 8/1/09 and oh yea... my old priest needs to marry me here.

Ya know? I'm not sure how understanding any church will be.

you are allowed to get married at a church and bring in a different priest , we live in Centereach and they had no prob with my brother marring there, If you have any problem let them know you are friends with the Robinson's.

Were you planning on getting married at St. Patrick's in Smithtown? If so, I'm getting married at St. Patrick's in Bay Shore (I'm originally from the Smithtown Parish), the chruch is beautiful and they have so many Saturday times, I know it's far from the Roslyn area but it may be worth looking into. We also looked into St. Patricks in Glen Cove which was also GORGEOUS but we live in Bay Shore and are part of the Bay Shore parrish now. If you want info on the Glen Cove St. Patrick's FM me.

Saint Mary's in Roslyn Village is really pretty too. I had my communion and confirmation there.

Re: PROBLEM!

OH NO! That stinks. I would definitely change the church. Its to long of a span in between. But may i ask does the church have to be in Roslyn? Because if you can swing it why not get married in Long Beach St. Ignatius Church (my church growing up) its a beautiful church & its not far from your RH. Just a thought.

Re: PROBLEM!

SOOOO... i work for the church and know that:

some parishes DO NOT take kindly to people who are not members getting married there, especially to do it with an outside priest. you need to be very careful about how you present that to a priest. if he is an 'old school' priest, he will give you a hard time about why you want to get married in his church. Talk to your priest and see if there is any that he knows of that wouldn't be a problem.

it sounds silly but priests can be very hard about why you are getting married in their church. its important that you make sure they don't know its because of a time issue. HTH
