Yeah, I would change the church too. My cousin is a priest and he has married a bunch of our family and none of them were in his parish. I agree with the other girls that say the gap is too long. . besides making other people wait - you know you would NOT be in that dress for the gap, and would want to start celebrating one way or another right away!!

OH NO! That stinks. I would definitely change the church. Its to long of a span in between. But may i ask does the church have to be in Roslyn? Because if you can swing it why not get married in Long Beach St. Ignatius Church (my church growing up) its a beautiful church & its not far from your RH. Just a thought.
The Church does not haveee to be in Roslyn.... the reason why I'm saying that area is b/c I want my pics at Planting Fields. So I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone.... ya know?
I'm so difficult!

SOOOO... i work for the church and know that:
some parishes DO NOT take kindly to people who are not members getting married there, especially to do it with an outside priest. you need to be very careful about how you present that to a priest. if he is an 'old school' priest, he will give you a hard time about why you want to get married in his church. Talk to your priest and see if there is any that he knows of that wouldn't be a problem.
it sounds silly but priests can be very hard about why you are getting married in their church. its important that you make sure they don't know its because of a time issue. HTH
Exactly... I'm affraid of this!

I don;t know of any other churches int he are but I do think it's a really big time gap. Your photographer will probably want you ready 2 hours before the church to take pictures of you getting ready and you and your family at your house which means you would have to be ready by 8:30a.m. I think if he is willing to marry you at another church than u should def go for that. What about your parish, where is it located?
My parish is in Smithtown. I love it and it has been such a huge part of my life... I pretty much grew up there b/c that where I attended school. But ever since my Grandmothers funeral I just cant walk down that aisle. It makes me to sad.
Were you planning on getting married at St. Patrick's in Smithtown? If so, I'm getting married at St. Patrick's in Bay Shore (I'm originally from the Smithtown Parish), the chruch is beautiful and they have so many Saturday times, I know it's far from the Roslyn area but it may be worth looking into. We also looked into St. Patricks in Glen Cove which was also GORGEOUS but we live in Bay Shore and are part of the Bay Shore parrish now. If you want info on the Glen Cove St. Patrick's FM me.
Yes, St. Patricks in Smithtown is my parish. I'm going to FM you for the Garden City info. On the positive.. I will need a new parish when I move to Roslyn with FH so I think maybe I could use that as well?
I don't know!

just make sure you go about it in the right way. don't say that the time is why. you can just go in there inquiring about a date and see if they have it open. but maybe your priest would know a church that would be alright. i think you said you wanted to kill two birds with the photos, but it might put too many restrictions. my sister is getting married in bayshore, pictures at old westbury garden and then RH is in wading river. so that is a lot of time to NEED. i'm not sure how far planting fields is or if you have an appoitment, but put together a 'scheudule' to see how long you would need to get from one place to another. that might help with some churches in the area.

a very good point! i would definitely say that if you decide to go into roslyn. let the priest know that you are going to be (as i put it when i did my church) 'starting a new chapter together and this is a great way to start it off in a new parish together'

Re: PROBLEM!
I think that is too long of a gap. First of all, you would have to wake up really early to be ready by 10:30am and by 8:00pm you will be so tired. Second, your out of town guests will have to find somewhere to go in the meantime. I would definitely try to get a later time.

Re: PROBLEM!
How about St Peter's in Pt Washington? My parents got married there, its literally the most BEAUTIFUL church I think i've ever seen...
And another option--not right next to Roslyn but not bad either--St Brigids in Westbury is gorgeous...and I am pretty sure my friend got married there with the priest from her parish (holy name of jesus, they were doing construction when she was getting married)
HTH!

Re: PROBLEM!
St. Agnes is REALLY strict when it comes to ceremony times, I wanted 330 and they told me it was out of the question, if you can find a church that's more accommodating, I say go for and see what you can do.

Yea!!!!!!! They said they only do weddings at 10:30am 12:30pm and 2:30pm.
So I asked about later like 4 or 6 and they said no b/c thats when people go for confession.
They do late ones on Friday though... I think 5:30 or 6pm.

Re: PROBLEM!
I am getting married at my parish by a priest that is friends with my FMIL. He is from another parish and my church doesn't mind. I think most churches are fine with it. I know my cousin did it too at a different church.
I would go online to the Rockville Center Diocese website and see if you can find another church in the area.
Hope it works out!!!
