'Put down that Twinkie!' - The Buff Brides Thread

Hi girls,

We were talking about this the other day, and I thought I'd start a thread for those of us who need a little gym / diet inspiration now and then. I thought we could post here when we need a little motivation (i.e. 'It's a coworker's birthday and she brought in cupcakes! I think I want to eat three of them! Help!'), or when we did something we're proud of that might inspire others ('I ran 2 miles on the treadmill today! Go me!', stuff like that).

I was thinking that maybe if I had somewhere to 'report back to,' I might be more likely to go to the gym, and maybe even to eat a little better.

So here, I'll start: I never have time to make my own lunch in the mornings, and so I always end up eating the junk in the cafeteria. I have either french fries or tater tots 5 days a week! So delicious, but so bad. So yesterday, I went to Target and bought a week's worth of Lean Cuisine meals - I figure I can just heat them up in the microwave and I'm good to go! I've never had a Lean Cuisine before. Today I'm trying the Fettucine Alfredo - I'll let you know how it is.

The thing is, I'm a vegetarian, so I don't have much choice. I just went through the frozen food aisle at Target and got whatever didn't have meat in it. I'll try Smart Ones next - they're made by Weight Watchers, right?

yes i think so.. i dont eat those meat ones.. the meat is gross.. so i guess u could say my choices are just like urs.. thats why i like the smart ones better they have more of a selection.

Check the sodium content on them, they have a lot of salt. So drink tons of water. Also I usually add some more grilled chicken because they do't have nearly as much protein, and lunch should really be your 'big' meal of the day!

I'm more of a 'grazer' - I don't have any big meals, I have a bunch of little ones. Apparently it's better for your metabolism? Plus, that's just how it works with my schedule (I wake up at 5:30 in the morning and need breakfast to get going, so I have a small lunch at 11:00, and another small lunch / big snack at 2:30, and then dinner at 7:00). I try to keep it between 1500 and 1800 calories a day, more if I'm exercising.

Aha! THIS is the reason I wanted to start this thread! Thanksgiving food is always so heavy and if you eat it, it'll definitely affect your weigh-in... Remember how good you've been all week, and if you deserve a little treat, then treat yourself, but keep it little! If you deny yourself the whole party, you'll just crave the food, and crave it, and crave it, till you can't take it anymore and say, 'ah, scr*w it' and eat everything. That's what I'd do, anyway. So my advice would be first have a healthy snack so you don't have a big appetite for the party. Then, when you're at the party, to nibble - take small portions of the stuff you want, try it, and you won't feel like you're missing out.

Thanks for the suggestions! I promise to try my best! Party starts at 12:30 so we'll see how it goes! I'll report back when it's over and I get back to my desk.

I really don't wanna screw things up especially since I started back on a workout routine this week (The Firm) and my legs are still killing me from it! Hopefully the pain will be a reminder that the food just isn't worth it!

If I stick to the turkey it shouldn't be too bad right??

PERFECT! I'll just sleep the rest of the afternoon away! Tell my manager 'it's for health reasons'

Ooh, I love 'the Firm'. all the videos I have are really old, and kind of funny. Janet Jones-Gretzky is in one of them (Wayne Gretzky's wife). It is a kick-butt arm workout - probably the most difficult tape I own. I love Gilad, too. He has a one-hour total body conditioning tape that I used 3 times a week once for about 4 months and got soooooo buff.
