On this sad and gloomy day, let us not forget those whose lives were lost on 9/11.
For today's question (Part1) Where were you when the towers were hit and you heard of the attack?? What was your first thought?
I was actually in economics class and our professor came in to tell us the horrible news. School was immediately dismissed and my mind went straight to my mom, who works in downtown Brooklyn and my uncle who owns a restaurant next to Madison Square Garden. It was such an uneasy feeling not know what was going on and not being able to contact anyone (since cell phones had basically no service)......
A neighbor was tragically lost and left behind 2 young children, ages 4 and 2. I always try to say a prayer on this day for those who died that day and those who have died fighting for our country.

i was asleep.... i think it was a tuesday and i was in college and didnt have class till 1pm! So i was sleeping in and my dorm phone started ringing and it was my brother saying 'turn on the TV' and i'm like, why what channel?? he was like, it doesnt matter just put on the effen TV! Cuz he was working in the city and couldnt get tv/radio/internet communication to hear what was going on there. So I sat on the phone with him for a good 30 minutes giving him updates of what was going on on the TV....He had worked in those buildings until a few months prior when he started a new job!!! Crazy how some things work out for the best (for him at least)... It was a miserable day at UCONN where i was at school... My prayers & thoughts are with those who lost someone special 8 years ago today!!!

i was sitting in 2nd period spanish with senor koob-my teacher was young, and right after we walked in we saw that he was crying, and he told us the towers had been hit, but we all thought it was some sick joke-it was just too hard to believe-then he put on the radio-
my dad is a city cop, and it was so scary-nobody knew where he was for quite awhile, and he was supposed to be on a special detail right there..he didnt come home for days and he was a mess afterwards..then that plane went down a few weeks later, and he was the first car on the scene-it was all really hard on him, and hes a veteran so hes seen a lot of s*it before but still..

Sophomore year of college at Boston University. I was on my way to a history lecture (how appropo) and overheard someone saying a plane crashed into the WTC. Most of us just brushed it off as an accident.
Then we're all sitting in the lecture hall waiting for the professor to come out, wondering why he's so late. 10 minutes later, he comes out onto the stage in the lecture hall (there were about 150 students in this class) and tells us that now two planes hit and class is cancelled. It was then and there that I realized how many NY'ers were at BU. We all got our phones out and were trying to call home.
The worst part for me was that I couldn't get in touch with anyone at home because the lines were so busy. My dad and sister used to work in Jersey City right across the water from the WTC, so my sister usually took the train in and had to take the PATH, which ran right under the towers. Fortunately, for whatever reason, my dad was running late that day and told her he'd drive her in and not to take the train.
My family was lucky enough not to lose anyone, but my father lost several colleagues (he was big on wall street), and my FH lost a cousin

I had just started college and had classes start at 11 that day so I was still asleep when the first one hit. My friend called me up and said turn the TV on-I said what channel? She said anyone!! I couldn't believe it. Than my mom came in and said Oh what movie is this. Than we found out what happened and watched it unfold. Being the first week of college I didn't want to miss classes so I drove there(heading west on lie) on the expressway everyone was driving crazy-trucks were in the left and hov lane. People were driving over the hov lines like crazy-it was weird. Than I got to class and there was this girl crying her head off that her dad was in the building. My teacher came in and actually started teaching!! But than school was cancelled.
Remembering 9/11 we will never forget!

I was working at Jamaica Hospital at the time. I was listening to Scott and Todd on WPLJ like I do every morning. They started talking about the plane that hit and I thought for a min it was a scam or one of their jokes. When I realized it was true, I ran to the nurses station on the floor I worked on, told them and ran to the patients lounge to put on the TV. Since we were a Level 1 Trauma center we were all on call waiting for survivors, sadly none came
I worked in the WTC for 17 years until I was layed off in 1999. I was devestated when I got layed off, but God does work in mysterious ways. I would have been there if I hadnt been layed off.
BTW- I was there for the 1st bombing in 1993.

I was teaching 4th grade. I think it really started to hit once kids started getting pulled out of school. I really couldn;t believe what was going on. Everyone was watching the TV in the office on their free periods. By lunchtime, the towers had collapsed. I remember the 10 minute drive home that day I just felt so sad and everything just seemed so quiet. Everyone had the same expression on their faces.

I was actually out of work at the time and my mother comes to me and says- Oh my god! Can you believe on this beautiful, clear sky day, a plane hit the world trade center! I thought it was just a bad accident. Then, when the second plane hit, I knew it was something way worse. I remember being glued to the t.v all day…We lost a few people from my neighborhood.

i had just got off the train at manhattan mall and was walking down 6th ave to work. i looked up and saw fire and smoke from the first plane. i called two my friends who were working at the towers at the time. i heard nothing from them. my heart stopped. my boyfriend at the time who i was living with is a fdny fireman. it was his first day of vaction. i begged him not to go to the towers. he said he had to for his 'brothers'. all of my family was calling crying for me and my sister to get out of the city. by the time i got home i had two messages on my machine from my two friends saying they made it out. i didnt sleep that night because my ex was not home. he didnt come home till the next nite. the things he told me he saw i will never forget. gotta stop im going to cry

I was getting ready to go to my lecture class and I passed by my Dad as he was watching TV in the den. He said check this out, t plane just hit one of the towers! I couldn't believe it. At first he and I were thinking it was an accident, but when the second plane hit, he called it and said it was a terrorist attack. We sat there watching for a while and then I called FH. He was at St. John's already for an early class and told me not to come because the campus was nuts. I wasn't going anyway. FH said he climbed to the roof of one of the buildings on campus with his friend and was able to watch one of the towers fall. Then he left campus.
The eerie part is that later that day, my friend and I met FH at his house and we could see the smoke and debris in the sky and this is in Flushing/Whitestone...
My Uncle was supposed to be picketing in front of the trade center that day because they were using non union workers, but they decided not to last minute.

It was my first month away at College and I was getting ready for class. Everyone in the dorms was running around saying, turn on the tv! My roommate was already gone to class so I was alone in the room and turned the tv on and my mouth just dropped. I remember still going to my early class that morning and the professor came in and just dismissed us. I went to Villanova, in PA, so there were a ton of kids there who had family in NY so I remember people being frantic trying to call their families. I think I came home the next weekend and remember driving over the Verazano Bridge and still seeing the smoke coming from the world trade center.

I was between classes on my way to my cousin's house (we always had breakfast together on Tues & Thurs) and I heard the first tower had been hit on the radio in my car. She lived 5 minutes away and in those 5 minutes the second tower was hit. The Radio was SILENT. The first words out of the radio guys mouth was. We are under attack. (I still get chills) I FLEW to my cousins ran in the house and turned on the TV. We watched in shock, as the first tower fell, then as the second tower fell. It was the most sickening feeling I ever had. The news broadcaster didn't even know what was going on and continued saying they were hit, as the news room all gasped and then yelled at him to look at the monitor. Ihad to go back to school as I couldn't miss my next class. I was the one who broke it to my professor who was walking from one class to the next and he hadn't known. He ran upstairs to the office. Came back and said with tears in his eyes, shool is closing in 15 minutes. Try and beat the crowds out and we all left. Then I went home watched it on TV until I had to go to work. I worked in a Nursery school at the time and knew I had to go. As badly as I didn't want to. It was basically a Free-For-All for the kids that day as we (the staff) all just crowded by radios. Parents either picked up their children early or were really late. I also worked in the office and one poor child's parents couldn't get to him. We usually closed at 6:30pm. I was there until 9pm that night until someone could come pick him up.
It is truely a day I will never forget, and let us not forget those who sacraficed so much for us. God bless them, their families, the victims, and the victims families.

I was a senior in hs and i heard ppl saying a plane had hit the tower. my first reaction was that it was just some accident. But after hearing that the second tower was hit we knew it was on purpose. Luckily, I didn't know anyone that worked in the towers or in the NYPD of FDNY but so many ppl in my HS were freaking out worrying about their loved ones...it was a terrible day

I was living in San Diego at the time -- so I was sleeping. My friend Erica called to see if I knew what was going on. I woke up immediately and saw the 2nd plane crash on tv. I was with my friend Mike -- he had slept over that night

I was in the bathroom listening to z100 and heard Elvis Durand say, 'we just got word that a plane crashed into one of the twin towers.' I was putting my contact in and said, 'wow.. that *****.' I either thought that A. It was an accident or B. It was a joke. Then I drove to Adelphi and we were in the UC and there were sooo many people there. I was with my friend and we were just staring at the TV's when the 1st tower fell. I think I was either in class or at work when the 2nd tower fell.
I left work early b/c at that time my then BF was supposed to be going into the city downtown with his dad whose a FEMA worker but luckily he just decided to not go that day.
From W. hempstead to VS it took me 3 hours to get home. Once I was home I had to park around the block b/c I live right off the belt pkwy/S.S./and Cross island and all the military cars were on my block waiting.

I worked on Wall Street at the time... wall and water... I was out that day, I had an interview in LIC... I woke up and the tv in my bedroom was on... i thought it was a movie or something... i woke up as the second plane hit... and then I finally realized it wasnt a movie... i ran up the stairs and called my mom... i couldnt get in touch with anyone... fh's cousin was on the 86th floor of tower 1... luckily she didnt listen to people who told her to go back to her office... she got the hell out of there and she is living to tell the tale, her son is our RB...
My godfather is a fireman, and my other uncle is a construction worker... he went down to ground zero and searched for my uncle... and he found him... there was a little blurb in the daily news about it... it was pretty special for us...
i was upset watching everything happen, but i broke down when my dad got home from work and i saw his face... i saw him cry when his sister and his mom died, but ive never seen him like that... also his other sister lives in PA and she called my cell phone and left me a message making sure i was ok, she knew i worked downtown but she didnt know where... and she was hysterical... that really got to me too
