ITS THURSDAY!!! YAYYY!!! Today I'm sure my work day will be filled with patients calling up to cancel their appointments! And catching up on paperwork since I wasn't at my desk at all yesterday.Today... I am going to ask you two questions. They are not related in any way, shape or form. So here they are:
1. What is some of your Secret Single Behavior (SSB)?
So for you Sex and the City fans... You know what episode I'm referring to. The one where Carrie talks about how she likes to stand in her kitchen eating crackers with jelly. And how Charlotte admits to staring at her pores every night.
Well... my SSB still happens IN FRONT of FH. I like to call it towel time. After my shower I like to sit in my towel and read or watch some tv or go on the computer. I like to let my hair air dry a little bit and I hate putting clothes on right out of the shower because I always feel like I'm still damp. I've been doing towel time every since I was a little kid and I when I started to do it at FH's place before I moved in... I didn't even think twice about it. I just felt so comfortable that I didn't care.
He ALSO likes to enjoy towel time himself every now and then :)
Now ... question two is NWR but with the storm barreling towards our already beaten and broken island.. I was wondering about it.
I am a Long Island girl born and raised. I grew up in North Babylon... 10 minutes from the water. Then I moved to Northport... 10 minutes from the water. I would wake up almost every day of summer vacation at 4 am to go to the docks and go fishing and crabbing with my dad. Our family vacation was always to Montauk. During storms we would take my dad's truck down onto the beach by Saw Thumb or Gilgo and watch the waves and the lightening and the clouds rolling.
After constantly hearing about the island 'sinking' and wearing away in school... and now after Sandy and actually seeing what happened to my island and where I spent my childhood... it truly breaks my heart that there is a chance my kids will not know Long Island for its beaches or the hamptons. The way its looking right now... my kids will never spend a summer break at Robert Moses. There is a chance that FH and I will never be able to take them to Montauk to show them where mommy and daddy had their first date and where daddy eventually proposed. My kids may have to grow up as 'inland' kids and that makes me SO sad!
The water and the beaches are definitely my FAVORITE thing in the world when it comes to Long Island. Along with all the little towns leading up to the water.
So... ladies... What is YOUR favorite thing/place/memory about Long Island?

My favorite SSB is coming home from work and putting jammies on, and sometimes just having popcorn, or chips and dip or something like that for dinner. Put on the TV and just NOT TALK TO ANYONE. I rarely get that because I live with FH, and we're home from work at relatively the same time. There are some times I wish I still lived alone so I could do that.Q2: I love Montauk in February. I was born and raised in the Hamptons, and I hate it in the summer. Way too crowded. Us locals love it when it's the off season. Montauk in February is so desolate and quiet. My favorite place and time on EARTH.

Re: **QOTD 3.7.13**
loveee these questions!and i love SATC. my SSB is being in my underwear. lol i too have 'towel time' but just being in my underwear with a big shirt, no shirt, a tank. of course they are cute underwear though haha.
andddd for long island it's the hamptons or the water in general i guess. i grew up by patchogue and the ferry and fire island and the hamptons every weekened and east hampton is where FH and i fell inlove. i also have family out there and every time we see them it's the best memories. i'm definitely sad that long island probably won't even still be here in 100 years but i also wish i could afford to live out east with FH and not have to feel like i can't live where i want on my own island! lol

I guess my favorite secret single behavior is hours of baseball. Barely moving from the couch except to use the bathroom and get sometimes to eat. Fh isn't really into baseball. He'll go to games with me and watch an inning or two but I could watch 3 or 4 games in a row. He doesn't have cable in his house and never has so we don't watch games there, and when he's over my house I usually let him pick what we watch. I can't wait till we are living together and I can tell him go watch something inside the game is on.2) I grew up in Brooklyn however I do have family in long island and my dad had some places he liked to go in long island when I was younger. As a matter of fact one of the few memories I have of my dad is also a memory of long island. He used to take us to adventureland as a treat when we were really good. Does anyone remember the haunted house back in the day? It was one of my favorite things. My uncle lives in huntington and whenever we drive down 110 to go to his house I always smile when we pass adventureland.

@ladygoodman... we could be fast friends. I could watch hours and hours of baseball too. But FH is equally a fan as me, so he'll sit and watch with me... and yell at the tv... *sigh*

Jenandivan- In my house they've gotten used to hearing me yell. I guess I should have included that. Fh hasn't actually witnessed me watching a full game. He has heard me yell at the radio before though haha. I cannot wait until baseball season starts!

I don't have any SSB hmmm... I am definitely a come home and put PJ's on right away type of gal and so is FH so I don't know if that counts since he does it too. hahahaMy favorite thing about Long Island, especially Suffolk county and further out east is how it calms me. I love the 'country' feel of it and love the land and the space. I moved around a lot as a kid and I finally landed in Mastic/Manorville area and lived there about 5ish years and it truly felt like home to me. I then moved to SI and I was heartbroken. I have a decent amount of family on LI and just couldn't stand the hustle and bustle of the city and I swore as soon as I could move out I would move back to LI. Luckily, I met FH and we moved in together! We started in Massapequa on the South Shore which we LOVED but due to the Hurricane we moved and are now in Selden. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it here! I am an 'out east' gal so Selden is a perfect compromise for North Shore (pt washington) FH.

I really dont have any secret single behavior because FH and I have lived together for basically 4 years now, and we live in a very very tiny apartment. I do believe hes seen it all!BUT, on the rare occasion that I am home alone, I get soooo excited to put on my PJs, get under a blanket and eat a snack while watching the real housewives. I seriously look forward to this time each week lol, but it is no secret from FH.

I guess my SSB is just to spend time on my laptop and not talking to anyone. Not sure how much that's SSB, but I don't do it that often now that we're living together.I don't exactly love Long Island and, in fact, would love to move off of it, but I wouldn't want to leave my family. If I had to pick though, it would be summer evenings when I used to walk around my neighborhood, or go to Eisenhower Park and just walk around there. I like to walk, lol. It's my thinking time.

My SSB is hibernating! I love just coming home, putting on sweatpants, and enjoying the silence. My friends used to make fun of me because I would disappear for weeks at a time and just hibernate, do things by myself. Drive to Nautical Mile & read a book. Anything quiet and by myself.

My SSB is getting into bed, closing my light and watching my youtube subscriptions. I'm subscribed to like 100 different youtubers and instead of watching TV, I watch youtube. As far as Long Island, I love all of the hidden parks. My FH and I do something called geocaching and it has taken us all over the island. We've found some gems, for sure.

My SSB is doing girly maintaince like waxing my upper lip. Everything else that was SSB I do in front of him now.As far as Long Island. I grew up 2 minutes from the bay and love the water. I can never imagine growing up inland. It does make me leary of what is going to happen to our Island. My favorite memories are spending time with my friends walking to one of our favorite docks. I would frequent there by myself too to read, take pictures, or just think. It is my favorite spots to go. I have gone on dates and taken them there. After the hurricane though the dock was underwater and completely destroyed. I still go there to sit on the sand now that the water has gone back out.

My SBB is just being lazy. I love when no one is home & I can just relax with a blanket, a cup of tea, catch up on DVR or read, and just veg.My favorite thing about LI is going to Islanders games. Once they move to Brooklyn I will seriously be devastated. I cant even think about it.

Geocaching is so much fun! His BIL introduced us to it one year when we went camping upstate. We only did it that one time, but I have a geocaching app on my phone that I want to use around here!

I tried the geocaching thing and just didn't get it. I'll have to give it another shot.MY SSB would have to be going to the bathroom with the door open. It's something I've done since I was little. I guess b/c I was the baby and no one would say anything. FH is totally used to now but I think at first he thought I was crazy.
My favorite thing about LI is FIRE ISLAND. I spent every summer with my friends on Fire Island. The older we got, the more we ventured out. We started getting beach houses in OB and OBP a couple years ago and it's literally paradise. I also love 'The Invasion' at the Pines on 4th of July.

Wow! Someone who knows what geocaching is!! We have like 450 found and are obsessed with it. Everywhere we go we HAVE to get a cache. The groundspeak geocaching app is a bit pricey but sooo worth it if it's something you're interested in. The free apps are great too though, there are so many on the island!

Love these questions!!I am also stoke that you have towel time....my jr bridesmaid will try and video chat me and as soon as I I decline she goes 'let me guess, it's towel time?'
Hmmm my SSb has to be soy products lol. Whenever FH is at the Rangers game I will indulge in soy sausage or tofu for dinner or just a big bowl of cucumber salad lol it may sound weird but he's such a meat and potatoes kinda guy and he won't eat any of that
Ahhhh my Long Island...I would miss point lookout and jones beach concerts. There is just something about a nice warm breeze coming off the water and listening to a good band play...
