Good morning ladies! Time for QOTD!

Did FH ask for your fathers/parents permission before proposing? Do you know how many people knew before you did?

FH asked my fathers permission before he proposed. I actually don't really think it can be considered asking since he had already bought the ring, it was more like a heads up

FH had told his parents (who I'm going to assume told his entire family) and his best friend. He also was making it so obvious that I knew it was coming. Seriously, for a guy in law enforcement he needs to work on his stealth! At one point he accidentally texted me 'I picked the setting and I'm picking out the diamond tomorrow' that was meant to send to his best friend. Men.

lol very stealthy. I hope he's not an undercover agent!

Yes, my FH asked my dad but he and my dad get along really well so I kind of expected it.

I think only my dad and my friend at work knew before I did. He proposed to me at my job so he had to ask my coworker the exact address of the school.

Other than that, it was a surprise.

My dad passed away when I was 8. I wish he would've asked my mom though. He only told his parents, his brother and his friends that were with us at the concert. No one in my family knew. They all have big mouths. I would have found out from someone.

Same! When FH and I first started talking about getting engaged I told him that he should ask my dad. We ended up getting engaged about a year after that and he took my dad out to dinner and showed him the ring on a night that I had a late class.

Everyone in both families knew before me. I was definitely the last to know I'm surprised someone didn't spill the beans!

A couple of years ago I asked FH if he would ask my dad's permission. he's sort of anti-tradition and thought it seemed 'silly'. he was married once before and his ex-wife's father was MIA her whole life, so he never had to ask him, and he didn't ask her mom either.

Fast forward, my dad and I had a falling out couple of years ago and really haven't spoken. My mom passed away a very long time ago, so I thought FH would be off the hook from having to ask for my hand in marriage. Low and behold - a couple of days before he picked up my ring, he called my dad and asked! I was so shocked! My dad was actually very cordial and said he was happy for us - even though we are still techinically not speaking. But FH def shocked me and i'm so glad he did it because he knew it would be important to me. And he did it when he had a solid out too!

FH asked permission one night when I went to sleep early...my dad was fixing a pipe under my sink and he went to go help him, which I didn't think was abnormal. When I found out that's when he asked my parents, I was so shocked, I knew the exact night he was talking about. He also asked my older brother (who's my best friend) and saved the conversation for me because my brother said the most amazing things. The last person he asked was my grandmother, because she's my hero and he knows I wouldn't do anything without her support. He took all the perfect steps, so the proposal was perfect from the beginning.

My mother apparently told all 500 people I work with the morning that he was going to do it, we work together. I left early to get my nails done (because it was Valentine's Day) and she told EVERYONE. The next morning I came in and everyone was smirking just waiting for the announcement, and it was like a riot. EVERYONE knew, it was pretty amazing that no one slipped!

My fh asked my dad the morning of the day he asked me. My dad was picking him up at the airport so he asked and then my dad took him to breakfast no had mentioned to him he should ask my dad. My dad only told my mom.
However a few the people did know about the engagement one knew how it was happening and 2 saw the ring but didn't know exactly when b
Inwasnt that surprised that's all I was asking for for about a year and we had just began the immigration process for me to become a Canadian so I knew it had to be soon !

FH enlisted my FSIL to get me out of the house the night before my birthday. While I was out, he went over and told my parents that he bought a ring. This was two weeks before he proposed.

His whole family had known since February when he bought the ring and then my whole family knew after he went to my house. My mom told this woman at a cupcake shop near their house and the woman actually spilled the beans a week later when I went in with my dad! When I asked my dad about it later, he was like, 'Well, you know Mom. She always thinks you're about to get engaged.' And I bought it! My dad avoided me for like the next week because he felt like HE ruined the surprise! But I really had no idea!

Yep, he asked my father permission! Since we live in the city, he had to plan a trip specifically to ask him without me there. I actually remember being offended when he went to 'visit his family' that he didn't want me to come along - little did I know!!

He also clued in his immediate family and best friends. When we announced the news, his family replied with, 'Finally!!'

FH asked my fathers permission over the phone. He wanted to ask him in person, but we couldn't get to Long Island due to Hurricane Sandy.
The only people that knew were his friends and family. When I called my sister to tell her she didn't believe me at all!

I flat out told him not to ask my father. I don't have a great relationship with my father so I felt it wasn't necessary. I pretty much told him 'Dont you DARE ask my father permission. If anything talk to my mom but don't involve him'. I don't know if he necessarily did talk to my mom about it.. but I do know that when she picked up the ring from the jewelers and gave it to him (she picked it up after we went and had it sized and stuff) they had a discussion but I'm not sure about what.

Everyone in the world KNEW the proposal was going to happen.... at some point... because he let me pick the ring and I was with him when it was purchased. The only person who knew WHEN he was ACTUALLY going to do it... was HIS boss because HE arranged for himself to have the next day off since he knew we'd be out late. He didn't think to call MY boss to give ME the day off. lol

My FH bought the ring before he asked my dad too. He asked my dad about an hour before he proposed because he knows my dad can't keep a secret. He told me that he was stuck in traffic and was running late. But really, he was at my dad's business asking my dad for his permission! Apparently, it was very quick - he showed my dad the ring and my dad gave him a thumbs up.

My FH didn't flat out ask for permission, but did mention it to him and my mom. My parents love FH, so he knew they would be thrilled.

Everyone practically knew but me! FH and I both had our own apartments, but my lease was up in November, and FHs was up in Janurary. We decided to get a place together, and on our first night in our new home he popped the question! All of his family and my family came over the following day with balloons and champagne to celebrate- it was amazing!

My FH asked for my father's blessing two weeks before he proposed. He also showed the ring to my mom and his parents, and all of my friends. I am amazed that no one told me!

My father died in 2011 so FH asked my older brother's permission. FH only told my brother, his parents, and his cousin who he is close with.

Yes. My FH actually asked my mom & dad. He asked them at my cousin's wedding. I was happy he included my mom. As for who else knew, he told my parents the day before he was going to do it, his mother, step father, father, sister, BIL, my sister, and my uncle, (who helped him with the ring, he used to be a diamond setter), and my aunt knew. Oh and my boss, because he proposed there. Now that I think about it, a lot of people knew The day of the proposal my FH had planned a surprise engagement dinner at our favorite restaurant so a lot of people were called saying it was going to happen and to be at the restaurant at 7 :)

FH asked my father and step-father. I am SOOO close with my step-father so I was very happy to hear he had asked him. He went with my father to my father's jeweler following asking him to pick our the ring. My mother and step-father knew he was going to propose and my step-mother and father were involved in the proposal. My father took him to his jeweler and FH had my step-mother set up our apartment while we were out.

It was the perfect day!

He really did it spur of the moment and even though we talked about it in front of our family he did not ask my father's permission. Which I am fine with cause I am not old fashion like that. I asked my dad one day what he would of done if he had asked and my dad was like what am I going to do tell him no lol. I then asked him would you have wanted to ask your permission first he said 'no I think it is sort of awkward am I not that kind of dad.' Love my dad haha.
