My nephew just recently turned 1 and I've been hanging around with him a lot and looking through his book collection/reading to him. There were so many books from my childhood that were in his collection and it got me thinking...
What books from your childhood will you read to your children one day? Are there any that stand out that you can remember being special??
The one book that was super important to me as a kid and impacted me was 'The Giving Tree' by Shel Silverstein. It is such a sad book with a happy ending… the pictures are very simple- no color, no grandure designs- but I really loved the story! Besides being an awesome story I will never forget how my crazy mother used to read it to us. On the back cover of the book was a picture of Shel Silverstein and to be honest, its a little frightening lol So everytime we would finish the story we would close the book to see the back cover and then we would scream really loud and fall back onto the bed. Such a silly moment that my mom created for me and my sister and I really hope I can continue that silly tradition with my own kids :)
When I saw your post I automatically thought of The Giving Tree as well! Such an amazing book, and after reading recently it was a little sad. Amazing though :)

I LOVE the Giving Tree! I used to read it to my grandparents!!!
I'll also read them the Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle. They were two of my favorite books as a kid - and oddly enough I'm terrified of bugs!

The books I loved to read as a smaller child were my Precious Moments Bible and my Precious Moments Bedtime Stories. Those two were the most important books to me, I don't know why they just were. They stayed at my bedside and in my headboard cubby for as long as I can remember! Brings back childhood memories!

There are a lot of books that really stand out but I think The Little Engine That Could, Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss, The Hungry Caterpillar, and for Hannukah time, there was a Rugrat's book that I kept. The show Rugrats had a Hannukah episode and then there's a book that's basically the episode in a book.. that one.

I thought of the giving tree also!! This is my favorite children's book. A friend of mine just had her baby shower and her sister asked instead of cards to bring childrens books and write in the book a message to the baby, so i obviously brought the giving tree! Love the question!!

All of the Berenstein Bears ... I was obsessed with them.
I was also in love with a book called 'My Baby Dear' by Esther Burns Wilkin ... It was a Little Golden Book.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this question!!
I'm a big BOOKIE (but not in the gimme your bets and let me get arrested way)...some of my favorites that I will FOR SURE read my kids are 'Guess How Much I Love You' which I've cut down as a reading for our wedding. FH and I have always said and signed cards that say 'Love you to the moon and back'....'My Most Thankful Thing,' (such a cute book about mother and child!), most of the Tommy DePaola books (strega nonna, big anthony!), Ugh I could go on but I'll stop here. I have BOXES and BOXES of books upstairs sorted from when I was teaching...I can't wait to make my kids reading nook!!
