Ah, it's not Monday anymore...that's always a good thing! And it's lucky 7/7 too...for anyone who's lucky number is 7, play the lotto today, and if you strike it rich, remember who told you to play!
The other night I was on the phone with my mom and she said that she was surprised that FH and I booked a typical reception hall. Initially, when we were searching for venues, we didn't look at typical halls either. This leads me to my question o' the day:
Is there anything that you've planned (or are planning) for your wedding that you're surprised you wanted? Like, not just want...but NEED to have?
As I said, FH and I were looking into different kinds of venues. We never pictured having our big day at a hall, and were looking into raw spaces, historical buildings available for rent, a couple of clubs in the city, farms, lofts, etc. However, our guest list was growing, which knocked some of these places out of the running due to their capacity level. And then we realized that with all of these places, we'd have to not just hire an outside caterer (we were cool with that), but also rent all the linens, tables, chairs, flatware, plates, etc.! Which also meant that we'd probably have to hire a DOC to coordinate it all and make it run smoothly. It took us awhile to give up the idea of having it in a funky spot, but we're thrilled with our choice in the Swan Club and don't have to worry about whether the chairs are going to show up or if the caterer might forget some key ingredients. I'm pleasantly surprised that this is where we ended up - we're so unconventional with so many things...a lot of friends were like 'wow, you're still being weird by booking at a reception hall!' LOL!

when fh and i started looking and halls i told him i needed and ice sculpture of the letter of my new last name. so when we found the coral house i told them i wanted a Z ice sulpture. i never thought i would want that. but i saw them and i fell in love with them so now we will have a Z in the middle of a table.

We haven't gotten anything I'm surprised about...but poor FH is surprised about MOST of what we've gotten...he didn't even understand why we needed a COCKTAIL HOUR!!!

I'm just surprised that I WANT & NEED this big wedding thing. I was never into the girly stuff or did I ever wanted this big wedding. I never wanted flowers, big hoopla, parents, cousins, their significant others, an RH etc etc etc and here I am - having all of that and I LOVE it!!!

certain things that the rh offered i prob would not have sprung for...like an ice sculpture..it's included in our package but if it wasn't, i wouldnt have thought to have one but now i LOVE that we have one!

good question...i guess it was that i NEED to book vendors that have good reviews...but more than that i NEED to feel secure about the vendors.
maybe its the economy, maybe its just getting caught up in everything...but when we first started looking at stuff, i found a few independent photogs and other vendors that i liked. but after meeting with FH and them, FH (i must admit, pretty easily) convinced me that we should be going with a reputable COMPANY not just an individual....
so, with that said, the search changed a bit.
we are still using independent/small business owner people for a few things (dj, video, flowers), but they are all highly recommended and reviewed....
and ever since our first starbucks meeting with a photographer, we have never had a meeting in starbucks again
ETA: i dont think i really understood how much hair and makeup was going to cost me!!

FH and I always thought we would get married on the water but none of the places we went to screamed, this is the one. We couldn't stop thinking about Chateau Briand and kept saying how the water was not a big deal since the hall is so nice. I've always wanted a ballroom with the drapery hanging from the ceiling and am so excited that this one has it.

Um, I don't think there is anything that I am surprised about needing for the wedding. I knew I needed a DOC to maintain my sanity. I never thought I would be so crazy about having the invitation we've chosen; it was never something that I thought I would go crazy about. I don't want any other invitation except that one.
I never thought I would want to wear an Indian outfit for the reception.
But there really isn't anything that I'm surprised that I needed to have.

I NEVER imagined i'd have my reception at Carlyle.
Other then that nope, i never thought about my wedding lol.

We also were looking for something different than a typical catering hall but like you we had to go that route due to guest list and budget. Before planning a wedding I also thought I wouldn't care about the small things like menus and place cards but now I'm obsessed over the 'small things'.

Fh kinda wants this big thing... and its getting me so excited, but I never initially pictured this. I thought I would always have a destination wedding.

I don't think so... I mean I was surprised when FH hated the Vanderbilt and I loved it... but we still ended up with a mansiony place with the Woodlands... I thought I would definitely want limos but being that the ceremony is at the RH and I am going to get dressed there I don't really see a need for them...
But I guess that is something I am more surprised that I don't need...

Same here...I didnt want a video at all FH & my Dad pushed the issue so now we have VIDEO
I never thought I would have a big bp and i have one of those too lol (1 MOH 11 BM 1 jr BM ect...)
