QOTD: What is something your parents used to say....

What is something your parents used to say to you as a child that you promised yourself you would never say-but now you find yourself saying it?

My mother has a ton of catch phrases. Right now I'm not sure what I say...we do joke about how often she says, 'It's something different for a change'! But the other day we were out shopping together and you would have thought she had an echo!

Sadly - I find myself saying this all the time to my son!

When I had to clean something and didn't do it to her standards, my mom would always say
'You did a half-assed job' and make me clean it all over.... to this day those words make me cringe!!!!

This is a good one! My parents have all KINDS of dorky sayings.

'If you don't finish that spinach by the time the buzzer goes off, you're getting the belt!'
(oh, p.s., I HATE spinach!)

'Don't drink so much soda or you'll float away'

'You're eating that candy like it's going out of style'

'But ALL the girls wear this'
(how do you know mom, do YOU go to school?)

'I don't care what so-and-so's mom lets her do, I said no!'

'Oh for Pete's sake'

My mother used to call MC Hammer ---- AC/DC Hammer! Also, CVS is called CVC!

When i was younger and complain about doing homework, and wanting to be in the popular crowed.

'well when you grow up you'll be driving around in the fancy car and they'll be saying 'do you want fries with that''

ps mom. i'm a teacher. there will be no fancy car. ever.

or everytime we went to get me new shoes, how she would talk about how she always wanted the $5 shoes, but could only get the $2 shoes and how lucky i was.

I came from an irish catholic family and whenever I would be bad and I'd get hurt or something negatve would happen after I was bad, my mom would say 'God got you back!', meaning, you were bad and you got punished. We laugh about it now because it seems so mean. But it was just a phrase her family used, sometimes I have to catch myself becasue when my 5 year old throws a tantrum and then hits her foot or something I say it to her too.

I don't have kids yet but I always here my brother saying things to his kids like:

'Keep crying and I'll give you something to cry about!'
or
'I hope you have kids just like you!'
FMIL says that to her daughters too I always laugh

My Mom always used to think there was a 'right way' (i.e. - her way) and a 'wrong way' to do everything. I used to argue with her about this constantly. And of course, now I find myself saying to DH, 'Because that's the wrong thing to do - the right thing is X.' And as I say it, I cringe!

When I complained that some people were so lucky, my Dad always used to say, 'it's amazing how the harder you work, the luckier you get.' That's so true!

When I would ask for Carvel and they would tell me 'We have icecream at home'. God I hated that.

My mom used to say I 'hid my light under a bushel' or something silly like that

My dad - oh he had a few alright:
'You could aggravate a saint!'
'Close the door - we don't live in a barn'
'Close the door we're not heating up half of Oceanside'
AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE:

'You make a better door than a window'

BECAUSE I SAID SO.

And she said when her mother use to say it she use to tell herself she woul never say it to her kids.

'Turn off the lights! Your father doesn't work for LILCO' That was a classic and makes me laugh now.

'I don't care what x's mother let's her do'

'Would you rather me be a parent that doesn't care?' This was after having to tell my mother where I was going, with who, when, how long I'd be there and what time I was coming home oh and leave the phone number (this is before cell phones).

We all got the 'Don't make me stop this car!'

The occasional 'If you don't stop crying I'll give you something to cry about.'

One of my favorites though that my dad used to say whenever I was hurt or upset:
'Don't worry, it'll go away by the time you get married.'
For some reason that always made me feel better since I knew it was just a temporary hurt.

There are more but those are the 2 I can think of. I say the first one a lot lately and I have actually blurted the 2nd one a couple of times.

LOL....makes me laugh reading some of these, I can relate to qiute a few of them!
