I was reminiscing about my first couple of jobs yesterday and thought it would be cute to chat about on a Friday !
What was your first job ? So how old were you ? Did you like it ? For fun - what was the pay ? Do you think it started you on the road to anything?
I was 14. Supermarket cashier. $3.85 an hour !! Liked it at first. Was SOOO EXCITED to work. But it got boring quickly, standing for 10 hour days on Saturdays ! Isnt that illegal ?? I lasted a few months till I got a job at a 'cool' clothing store for $3.35 an hour !! Took a pay cut !! LOL. But got discounts on clothes ! (Thats where the obsession began ! ) and my sis worked down the block at another clothing store ! We waited for eachother to get out of work to go home together. In the back of the store were the buying offices, and constantly asked questions about who these ladies were and what they did, that it intrigued me that one could shop for a living and put together everything in a store ! (and it always remained in the back of my mind, till I went to F.I.T. for buying/merchandising !)
Anyone else have job stories to tell ??

My first job was in the former Ceasars Bay Bazar in Brooklyn in a furniture booth they had...I made a whopping $4.50 an hour...it was the most boring place in the world except that my best friend worked in the ice cream booth on the other side of the floor so I was always running back and forth to hang out w/ her!

Mine was a bakery, Reinwalds. I was 15 and i had to wait a year to be able to slice bread. I annoyed everyone with that LOL. I worked there for 3 years. It was walking distance from my house and I just wanted to be able to have pocket money since my mom didn't give me much allowance. It was a lot of fun

Paper girl. I think I started at age 12. I delivered the Daily News, so I had to get up before school to deliver papers. I even had to deliver in the winter, in the snow, rain, etc! My dad would help out every once in a while, especially when 'Aunt Flo' started to visit. It's not easy riding a 10 speed with a giant maxi between your legs I didn't mind the job - I was psyched to have my own money.

My first job was a cashier at a farm stand. I was 14. $6.50 an hour. I HATED it. I was the only one there all the time, and all we got were very old people who never had enough money for things!

what a fun topic!
My first Job was at Sears, in the lingerie department. I loved it.. I made 5 dollars an hour which I thought was GREAT! I remember having crushes on some of the boys that worked across the way in the mens department and actually started dateing one. I also remember going out all night and going straight into work in the morning and just feeling ' a little tired' I think I would feel like deathe if I ever did that now Ahhhhh, all the energy I had back then

Re: QOTD - Your first job(s) ?
very fun topic
my first job was in 1996. I was a co-op student which meant I went to school one week and I went to work one week (so very cool)
I got to work in American Express. I worked with the travel group. I got so many cool stuff (giveaways mostly) and I got to learn so much about the travel industry. The pay was 7 bucks an hour. For a 17 year old working only 2 weeks a month what could be better.
From then I applied within the company and continued to be there till 2001.
Afterwards was Blackrock and now temping.

My first Job was being a rink guard at Newbridge Ice rink when I was 16...I was the only girl with about 10 guys all older than me.. ....But it was fun because all the guys on friday and sat night would try to talk to me and all the guys I would work with would scare the guy away...mostly the crude and obnoxious guys.. the cute ones were watched like a hawk.. it was like working with 10 older brothers...

I was 14 or 15 and i worked at king kullen for 4.70 cents an hour.. i LOVED it, not for the money but for the cute deli counter guys!! LOL
Then i worked at Key food for 4.85 an hour, and they didnt have any scanners so you had to punch in the amount it wasnt so bad on the express lane but man that got tiring when people came in with like 200.00 worth of food.. plus they had rats in the basement and mice up front, everyday when we would come in there would be mouse droppings all over the registers..ewwwwwww i quit there pretty quick!

My first job, at the age of 14, was a babysitter at church. Basically, a friend and I were in the basement and we watched babies and small kids while their parents went to church. I liked this job because it prevented me from going to church, which I hated. I don't remember how much I got paid, but it wasn't much, maybe $30 a month. I saved my money and was able to go on a school trip to Germany with it. When I turned 15, I got a 'promotion' at church - I was responsible for opening the church on Sunday mornings at 7:00, making coffee, cleaning up, and closing the church. I got about $75/month. Again, I really couldn't attend service because of work! Loved it!

Great topic! My first job was when I was 14, I was an umpire for little league softball. I made $12 a game. Not too bad for 14! The little girls were so cute, but the 'softball parents' were so psycho! One woman would hit her kid when she struck out!
