QOTD - Your first job(s) ?

Original post by anna

I was reminiscing about my first couple of jobs yesterday and thought it would be cute to chat about on a Friday !

What was your first job ?
So how old were you ?
Did you like it ?
For fun - what was the pay ?
Do you think it started you on the road to anything?

I was 14. Supermarket cashier. $3.85 an hour !! Liked it at first. Was SOOO EXCITED to work.
But it got boring quickly, standing for 10 hour days on Saturdays ! Isnt that illegal ?? I lasted a few months till I got a job at a 'cool' clothing store for $3.35 an hour !!
Took a pay cut !! LOL.
But got discounts on clothes ! (Thats where the obsession began ! ) and my sis worked down the block at another clothing store ! We waited for eachother to get out of work to go home together.
In the back of the store were the buying offices, and constantly asked questions about who these ladies were and what they did, that it intrigued me that one could shop for a living and put together everything in a store ! (and it always remained in the back of my mind, till I went to F.I.T. for buying/merchandising !)

Anyone else have job stories to tell ??

Good thread Anna!!

My first job at 16 was as a 'LaGuli Girl' at this famous pastry shop in Astoria called LaGuli's!!! I would come home filthy, smelly and looking like a big cannoli!!!

And Jen, I knew our paths must have crossed at some point because I used to go that movie theater all the time w/my cousin!!! See what a small world it is!! You probably gave me my ticket!!!

Edited to say the pay was minimum wage, which was something pathetic like $3.25 an hour (if it was even that much back then), but I thought I was making a FORTUNE!!!

And not for nothing, but even after I left that job and worked as a cashier and again made diddly squatems, I still had money for my car insurance, tuition, books and to go out and buy a new outfit every week to go out with!! Thank god for Rainbow, the TriCounty Flea Market, and $9.99 pumps!!!

I was 15 and a concession clerk and a ticket cashier at Central Plaza Movies in Yonkers. The pay was $4 something an hour and all the popcorn and Diet Pepsi you could handle

My first job was bussing tables at a restuarant.
I was 15 years old. Not sure how much I made, I think it was about $3.50/plus a certain percent in tips.
I LOVED it, because of the money, the tips were great, but I worked every weekend.
