Quantity Or Quality in a diamond ring?

Re: Quantity Or Quality in a diamond ring?

Am- Wer'e not asusming that. I think the question was more along the lines of...like if you had the same amount of monye to spend either way...would you go for the bigger diamond and less quality, or the smaller one with higher quality. Of course if you have a lot of Money you can have a very big one of high quality!

I think that a lot of people falsely assume that because a diamond is large, it has a poor quality!!

what would one assume that? the diamond (regadless) of size speaks for itself.

Quality --- unless you are just looking to impress. BUT here's a tip -- we picked out a jeff cooper platinum design, 1.58 ct. VH1, G stone...the stone alone was $18,000 at Fortunoff's. FI has done this before and works with a high-end diamond dealer on 47th St. Got the same stone, plus two .58 ct. side stones, AND the jeff cooper platinum setting (but not made by jeff) for the same price as JUST the diamond at Fortunoff's. FI knows a lot about diamonds himself, and has done lots of business with this guy, but if you know anyone in the diamond district or anyone who can recommend someone, that is definitely the way to go....quality at a fraction of the price of a large department store. And be sure the vendor is reputable. And if you take it to another jeweler to be appraised, do not let the ring out of your site!

OK that's my 2 cents...

I LOVE MY RING BECAUSE MY HUSBAND PICKED IT OUT. ITS NOT BIG BUT ITS THE CUT AND METAL I WANTED. I WOULDNT CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD...

the heat treating you are talking about is something that is important.. some places use it to enhance the ring, but ALL jewelrs can recognize it and thus its valued at less...the important thing is not to get sold a ring that has been enhanced at the same cost of a ring that wasnt...

quality has so many aspects, the color grade, the clarity, and the cut with the girdle size and such..

i personally a combination of quantity and quality. I knew i wanted 1carat minimum but not much more, i didnt want naked eye imperfections so i went with SI2, and i knew i had to have diamonds in the setting cause it sparkled sooo much...

i personally dont see the need for a super expensive engagement rings because i look at the other things you can buy with the money like furnature and stuff...

I love jewelry, so I wanted something nice but of course whatever FH decided to buy for me I would love. We looked around together and we learned a lot about diamonds in the process. I think he found a great combination that made us both happy. The only two things he insisted on was that it be a D color and the budget of course. The rest was up to me. My requirement? That it sparkle like crazy - and it does!!!

FH and I went for small and high quality. I get a lot of stupid comments about rock size, but people are stupid, so what can ya do?

I would prefer a quality stone vs a bigger one.

I was once in a jewelry store and there was a guys standing there saying I don't care about the color or anything, give me the biggest diamond earrings you can for $x

Since my FH picked it out and bought it ...that's what I like. It's called LOVE not quantitiy or quality. Who really cares?

Exactly. You get what you can afford and as long as the person who is wearing LOVES nothing else should matter.

I went with smaller an more valuable. For some reason it was important to me. i like knowing how high quality the diamond is. I know people wiht huge rings and I feel like they're showing off.

I think that people just assume just because you have a BIG ring it is less quality and that people with BIG rings are showing it off. That is like saying people with LITTLE rings dont show them off because they are EMBARASSED. I think you will always have people who are Like LOOK AT me and then there are others who are wearing a big ring and dont even mention it.

quality is always better....
I was happy with FH's choice...although I gave him hints

I told him platinum princess cut, with baguettes on the side....
and he got me exactly that with a few extra stones on the sides of the baguettes....

and I am pleased....the stone itself is 1 carat..
and all the others are .75....
and u know what I LOVE IT!!!

Grant it every grl would love a huge one like the grls from the bachelor or the stars....
but u know what....it came from the heart, and our fh's got us what they felt would make us happy without losing the clothes on their back for it...thats what matters....

My FI thinks bigger is better but I think quality is better!
He got a ring made to what he wanted but when he got it home he thought I wouldn’t like it.
He brought it back and told them the new spec. for clarity and color.
When they finally found one it was bigger than he originally wanted. He said fine and just went the extra $.
I love my ring but I do feel uncomfortable around others sometimes.
I feel as though people think I'm materialistic and stuck up because it is bigger then most but it's no 4 ct ring.
I didn’t pick it out or buy it and I'm so not like that!

Re: Quantity Or Quality in a diamond ring?

My center stone is small compared to most, (just under one carat, princess cut) but including the smaller princess dimonds on either side and the round diamonds down the band, its a very sparkly, pretty ring. And the quality is exceptional, which definitely shows.

FH designed it himself.. how could I NOT love it when he took the time to pick it out to his specificaton?

I'm not just saying this , but personally I didn't want anything bigger than 1 carat E-ring. I like jewelry but am not a ring person whatsoever .. so I knew something bigger would bother me and I'd be too self-concious. My wedding band is rather thin, and will be .70 diamonds total as well.

I really admire larger stones with good quality on other girls .. it defintely suits some people better than it does me

I would pick big and perfect in my personal fairy tale land but in reality I have to go with small and great quality.
