Quantity Or Quality in a diamond ring?

Quantity Or Quality in a diamond ring?

Would you girls rather have a huge rock but with discoloration and imperfections only a professional could tell by looking at it OR a small perfect, clear expensive diamond?

I went with smaller an more valuable. For some reason it was important to me. i like knowing how high quality the diamond is. I know people wiht huge rings and I feel like they're showing off.

Depends on the quality of the bigger ring. I was in the same situation when I (oops i ment my FH) was picking out my e ring. I choose smaller and better quality

If I had to choose, I would pick small and valuable. Many jewelers do trade-ins on stones. In years to come, if you want to invest in a bigger stone, it will be easier to trade in a smaller valuable stone than a larger not so valuable stone. This is JMO, of course. It is really what makes YOU happy!!!

I chose smaller and more valuable also, because it's an investment you can always fall back on.

Some people I know went with bigger stones, the quality was not noticible by a regular person just looking at it. Ther stones were treated, cracks were glued and heat treated not to be visible. Those stones were beautiful. Huge and shiny. Only a profesional who does heat treating could tell it was treated. The problem might arise later on when the stones will be cleaned, they have a chance of falling apart.

to me you can see a difference in quality when a lower one is held next to a higher quality diamond

I also went for smaller and more perfect And I would never trade it in to 'upgrade' because you can't 'upgrade' where you were in life when you got engaged. JMO. Now, on the other hand, I am not opposed to an ADDITIONAL ring

I chose a good combo of both!
This may sound selfish but I didnt want a 1/4 ct but I wanted quality ring over a 2ct ring!
I love my ring the main stone is just under 1 ct but it sparkles even when its dirty and I love it!!!!

I know people who have larger rings and the quality is noticibly bad! They just dont sparkle the way a quality stone does!!

Plus I think that the diamond should fit your hand! A friend of mine has an emerald cut (great quality and BIG) but it looks good on her b/c she has long fingers! I know someone else who has a HUGE at least 2.5 ct solataire round but it looks odd on her hand because her fingers are short!

Either way, I LOVE my ring and the fact the my FH picked it out without anyones help!!

my fiance chose a smaller stone and high quality. i can tell the difference in color of other rings. not so much imperfections in the ring, but i suppose if they were big enough i could tell. you can't see the imperfections in my ring with the 10X magnifier ( i think that is the regular one) but my fi said the jeweler showed him with an 18X and then he could see it, but very slightly. definitely quality over quantity.

Cut is the MOST important factor to consider. a lower grade color stone w/ perfect propotions will look a lot whiter and crisper than a larger high color stone w/ a terrible cut.

to answer your question, smaller w/ an ideal cut.

I choose small and valuable.
Whatever he can afford and as long as it comes from his heart, that is, all it really matters to me.

I chose Quality. My friend has a bigger stone than me but it is very noticably less sparkly ... We both have a Round Brillant Cut, but hers is definitely more 'squat' whereas mine forms a perfect 'triangle' bring in the light much better. She actually complains about it but she was the one who insisted she had 2 cts + ... moral of the story, never go for quantity, always go for quality, it does show!

Quality all the way !!!

Re: Quantity Or Quality in a diamond ring?

I prefer quality defintely but I got both.
Buts its funny how people who dont know diamonds always ask why the stone is yellow..
I always have to explain that it a canary diamond and its not poor quality...just different color.

So basically ts the gift of the ring thats more important. It came from the heart and that makes it priceless.

I agree. I feel like, although you can't see the inclusions, you cna tell by the sparkle and the overall look. When I looked at stones @ zales, they were pretty, but lower in quality. Then i went to the jeweler that was recommened to me and FH and I picked exactly what I wanted and I was completely wowed by my stone. I don't know how to look for inclusions or anything, but to me it sparkled and looked SO much more beautiful than the others. When FH picked it up, the jeweler said it's the most beautiful stone he's sold in 20 years!

Re: Quantity Or Quality in a diamond ring?

my FI went for quality. He had to choose between a 1ct and 1.25ct. The 1.25 was slightly yellow and he said you could tell. He chose the 1ct and i am so glad he did. I get so many compliments on how sparkly it is!!!

I would never upgrade; however, i nice pair or 1 or 2 ct earrings in the future wouldn't be such a bad thing!!!

Completely agree, quality ALL the way, although, I did end up with both and am VERY happy about it!! I think if you see enough diamonds and compare those of higher quality you can see the difference in stone, althouh most people would never really be able to tell. I think it's all about what is important to each individual person but there is something about a very good diamond that just looks amazing!!!

I think that a lot of people falsely assume that because a diamond is large, it has a poor quality!!
