From what I remember from 8th grade genetics, if a crooked pinky toe is actually a trait you can inherit, the gene would have to be dominant in order for your kids to have it. If it is recessive that means that it is a less likely chance of them inheriting this trait, being that both you and your FH would have to carry this gene for them to inherit the trait. Blond hair and blue eyes are both recessive traits which is why brown hair and brown eyes are more common, they are dominant traits. Dominant traits mean that only one person has to have the dominant gene in order for your children to inherit the trait
ok so our kids will NOT have blue or green eyes even though both our families have them, we dont
You might have blue eyed children if you both give the recessive gene to your child.

Re: question about genes
I have a feeling FH and I are going to end up with a red headed child, which is ok as long as he doesn't look like the guy from mad tv

not necessarily true. you can both have brown eyes and carry a blue or green trait. if thats the case, there is a 25% chance of your kids having blue or green. all 4 of my grandparents have blue, my mom has green, my dad had brown = all four of my siblings and me have brown but we could still carry recessive traits and have kids with blue or green in the future! confusing but interesting stuff! Look up genetics and punnett squares.
punnett squares were my favorite part of high school biology. i don't know why. but we made them for EVERYTHING.
did any of you have to do that tongue roll family tree for high school bio? We all had to take pictures of ourselves, our siblings, our parents, and grandparents if we could... trying to roll our tongues. the teacher then posted those collages on the school wall for the rest of the student population to see. ah... the blackmail that teacher provided us all with was well worth the embarassment of having our own photo up there.

yup! lol I have the strangest hair line... it's not quite a widows peak...or maybe it's WORSE than a widows peak... either way, it's awful and everytime i get my hair done or cut the person doing it needs to comment on it

I'm so bummed that I missed the genetics talk. That's my line of work, but I agree with what was said. You can have a beautiful blue eyed child with a cute crooked toe.

You could. My sister has dark brown eyes and her husband has hazel/light blue. Her oldest daughter has the bluest eyes and her little one dark brown.
