Re: QUESTION FOR THE ANIMAL LOVERS...
This may sound like a strange idea, but why dont you put up an add on Craigslist and then interview people that are interested. Having a dog is like having a child (kinda lol) so I can just imagine the worry you have about trusting the person that takes him. I would honestly want to make sure I was picking the right person.

Re: QUESTION FOR THE ANIMAL LOVERS...
thats really unfortunate, I would never give away my dog, I took on the responsibility so I would never just give up.

Re: QUESTION FOR THE ANIMAL LOVERS...
we recently adopted a cat from Last Hope rescue. Since then, they have started to operate the former BideaWee in Wantagh and have more room for the animals. Our kitten was fostered by their volunteers and has a lovely disposition which I think is in part due to their care. they interview potential adoptees and ask for references which they do check so I think they try to be careful in finding homes.
So you might want to try checking with them. The # I have, which may have changed due to their move is 631-425-1884. web site: lasthopeanimalrescue.org
Good Luck
