Question, How many of you have your ring insured??

Original post by TheFutureMrsM

I finally got my ring, and FH is insuring it. He had to make up this contract to submit to the insurance company that its his ring, but he is loaning it to me. Its insured under his name so the letter states that i will be wearing it. He got all risk insurance through liberty mutual wich is our auto insurance and our homeowners insurance as well. Anyone else have to do this?

I had it insured under my parent's homeowners insurance about 3 weeks after FH gave it to me. I didn't where it to certain places until it was insured!!! LMAO... The ring is insured under my name not my FH's. It is $480 for the yr.

I haven't yet. I was going to add it as a seperate rider on my parents home owners insurance, but once I move out it's not covered anymore. Is this true?? I'm probably going to use jewelers mutual insurance for now.

My ring is on our homeowners insurance under my name. FH had this done before he even proposed. Girls that do not have your ring insured...shame on you! Call an insurance company now and get it insured, your FH is out of all the money he spent if you lose it!

If you're not a resident at that address, you can't insure it under that homeowner's. You have to change it when you move.[

We got the ring insured through FH parents homeowners plicy. I had told fh I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it without insurance and he agreed.

Yes I also insured my ring. We did it through an affiliate of Geico, where we purchased renters insurance and it was covered. All we had to do was call them and give them information over the phone and then about a week or so later, we rec'd the paperwork for our records.

We used geico as well same procedure. Smooth and easy..but nothing about him giving me the ring on loan.............

if you rent, you can add a riders to your renter's insurance (super cheap) regardless of who purchased it. i'm surprised about the loaner language - i thought in ny a ring is always considered a 'gift.'

you should look carefully at the language in the policy, i.e., do they just reimburse for the stone? what kinds of losses do they cover? losing it in a drain? theft? what do you have to do to establish that the ring is 'lost' i.e., obtain police report, call a plumber (as mine requires me to do).

also make sure that the policy does not assume you are living together if you aren't (sounds like you guys live together though). and get one that covers all loss - b/c you never know what can happen!
