RE: 'Dead Horse'

Original post by Kel

I want to start off by saying I'm not looking to start a battle .. I simply felt compelled to express my opinion on the username 'Dead Horse.'

As someone who loves horses, and is strongly against the slaughter of these companion animals within the borders of our country, I am offended by the selection of this username.

YES!!! Buy her a horse. And while you're at it, buy one for me. I started riding when I was 9 and I still take a weekly lesson. When I was budgeting for the wedding and getting a place to live, I had to include my riding in my expenses. I couldn't imagine my life without those beautiful animals.

Where does Christina ride now?

Fourteen is the PERFECT age to get a horse. It will keep her away from boys for a few more years

My sister has a horse stable in her backyard that she doesn't want. The only problem is that it has electricity running through it. But I pretty sure they want to get rid of it for nothing. You just have to carry the cost of taking it

Why make the kid happy and give her what she wants, tell her no, because you said so, and that's all the reason you need.

also send her to her room without dinner.

Now we're getting somewhere!

COME ON NOW! Think of the responsibility she will learn! The possiblity of a future career in veterinary medicine or horse racing or something like that! Look at it as an investment in her future...

I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted a horse when I was little, can you tell?

Horse racing - now there's a wonderful future for girl!

I thought you were all on my side. The animal she wants cost 10 grand! My horse was no where near that. Yes she already cleans stalls so I don't think there's a problem with that. But she wants me to also build our own barn so she doesn't have to walk next door. Well excuse me missy! Come on someone give me a reason why she shouldn't have a horse. PLEASE!

10K? That's all? What are his bloodlines? How old is he? It could turn out to be a great investment. My friend's parents bought her a 3 year old Swedish Warmblood for 10K in 1994 and they sold him 4 years later for 3X that amount.

You're lucky she hasn't said 'Daddy, I want that gran prix jumper, he's only $100K. That's a steal. His brother went for 125'

I will keep her away from the boys - thank you!

She rides next door. Every other house on my block has a barn. We are in horse country. I used to barrel race when I was a wee bit younger.

BTW-you've been taking lessons for a long time. When you gonna get good enough to not take lessons?

If she owned her own stable of race horses it could be very lucrative. She doesn't have to be a jockey! Don't be so negative

After sending her to her tell her she can only come out if she cooks you and Liz gormet meals every night for a year. Then make her clean the toilets.

Christina wants us to buy her a horse too.
What does everyone think? Should a 14 year old have their own horse?

If that's all then you pay it!

She would never want a jumper. I converted her to western. That's my girl!

I also taught her a thing or two about what kind of horse to get. She saw a 3 year old Morgan (jet black). Wonderful animal!

Horse rqacing = gambling, drinking etc. Why would she do that when in a few years she'll own this site?

Well, actually, I am good enough, but I enjoy riding and now I am perfecting the art of horsemanship.
