Hi ladies... quick question for a friend.... if you were married in a Lutheran church, got divorced- and then decided to re-marry in a Roman Catholic Church - do they give you a hard time about it???
Just curious if anyone knows?
Thanks!

Re: Re-marrying in a church?
The priest at the RCC will definitely ask if you've been married before... and they're not super appreciative of divorce, but I can't first hand say what happens when they find out you've been married before, even if it was outside the RCC.

Re: Re-marrying in a church?
I'm pretty sure if you are divorced you aren't allowed to get married in a catholic church. My mother was divorced before she married my father (who was a widower) and they weren't allowed.

Re: Re-marrying in a church?
It's a shame that the RCC would be that willing to lose a parishioner than to understand, unfortunately, divorce is not always by choice, ya know? I thought if you were married outside the Catholic Church, that the RCC didn't recognize the marriage, but I could be wrong.
Hi Anna!!! :)

The person would need to get the marriage annulled.

i think though it all depends on the church. technicall you can only get married in a catholic church if you are catholic. not sure how many churches still hold that rule.

Churches today have become more accepting and forgiving than they used to be. Go talk to the Priest. They will allow it.

This is true too...
I was told in my Church if One of us was NOT catholic (i mean FULLY catholic all sacraments included...) You cannot get marry in it...
There was a couple in our Pre cana sessiion who was missing his confimation, OH BOY... they told them they have to start with that and THEN the wedding process... so they had to start with the confirmation process first...

Not sure about the catholic church but why not get remarried in a Lutheran church. I know they are more understanding about divorce (at least the ones I have attended)

I don't *think* so since they weren't married in the church before. And the church really only recognizes church marriages.
