re-post from BHB: What do you think of having two best men?

Original post by slwh2005

My FH just asked his two brothers to be best men and they had the worst reaction. He's so bummed now. They were both like why would you have two? It's ok you can just ask the other one, etc.

What do you all think? He told them that he wanted them both up on the altar with us and that they are both very important to him. (A little background: both parents passed away, these are his only two brothers - both older - 7 and 9 years older. He lost his dad when he was 9, so they've been sorta father figures.)

He was so disappointed by their reaction. I know I have seen two best men before and I thought it was fine. What do you think? Thanks.

I was kinda shocked at their reaction too. I think we probably will talk to them more about it. I thought it was a great idea. (maybe that's because it was sorta my idea - another reason why I feel badly about it now) I'm hoping they do come around, but unfortunately their reactions sorta ruined it for FH. People can be so clueless at times!!!

I dont think there is anything wrong with it - my FH has 3!!!!! Its hard to choose, so dont do it. Its not necessary. It will just cause the whole you love him more thing between brothers in my opinion.

I find this so comforting. My FH currently has 2, but really wants to ask his other best friend to be a BM also. After much deliberation, I told him he could as long as he only has 1 on the alter w/ him, and all 3 must be announced into the reception together instead of 'and now, our first best man...next, our second best man, and so forth'. I say go for it!

My FH was torn between 2 best friends and he didn't want to have to choose. I made it easy for him by picking my two sisters to be my Maid and Matron of Honor. When he asked his two friends to be Best Men, they were both honored. I think nowadays (gosh I sound like my grandmother) anything goes as far as wedding parties are concerned.

Whatever will make your fay exactly the way you want it. I have a MOH and a Man of Honor- everyone thought it was weird, but I am so happy that I am having both

I have a Matron of Honor and a Maid of Honor and he has Two Best Men. Funny thing is that is the entirety of our party. I couldn't choose and neither could he. They definately should be honored! My maid was relieved because she's in Med school and can't 'perform the usual duties' but I have the Matron for that. Hopefully they will come around!!
