I got a manicure today and wondered if I should make a 3rd attempt at uv gel nail tips, even though EVERY TIME I do it, I hate it and have them taken off after a month..
So I'm a real nail gal although I love how tips look (when they're clean and natural)

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
I just took OFF my permanent french UV gels because they were such a pain to fill in every two weeks (plus with a gratuity it was $50 a visit). I wish I'd known that acetone doesn't remove them like acrylic!!! I am in the process of growing my natural nails out. I'll likely get them silk wrapped before the wedding to avoid chipping a manicure.

I'm a real nail girl. I go for my $7 manicure once a week which keeps them in good shape.

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
I will say, getting a weekly manicure definitely keeps the nails in good shape-
Just wanted to share a tip with you girls
I found a brand of nail polishes that stays on WAY better than anything else, the brand is Creative Nail Design. Its hard to find, I have a lot of their polishes from networking with their team during fashion week. However if you go on the website goindulge.com you can buy any of the colors/products. One of their nail artists runs this website. Even if you just use the base and top coat (I like 'Sticky' basecoat and 'Super Shiny' topcoat.) You could bring those to the nail place and use an Essie color in between, you definitely get less chipping.

What's the difference between UV gel tips and acryllic tips?
Was thinking the same thing myself.

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
Realnails fo rme. Thankfully i have great nails that hardly ever break but if they do oh well they will grow back. Im not into having all of that stuff on my nails plus i dont have the patience or time to sit for that.

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
I have UV Gell. While I hate going to the salon every few weeks I actually need them. I wash my hands all the time at work (medical device sales) and when I do my nails peal so when I got engaged I got UV gells. Now I've had acrylic in the past and I thought that I was really rough on them and they did not look natural. My nails are very thin and natural looking to an extent. I'm always telling my girl...make them thin. I dont have a problem with them.
Now...the difference is acrylic...the natural nail needs to be filed down for the filling. you can get silk wraps which most of them put acrylic on top anyway...or powdered acrylic... either way I've always found it harder for the nail peeps to make them look like my natural nail. The UV gell is a gell that they smooth on the nail and has to set or harden under UV light. They never file my natural nail down. However UV gell they use an adhesive on the natural nail so if you try and take them off you will pull up the first layer of nail. Nails are hardend keratin in many layers. So...if you are thinking of taking them off I would let them grow out as much as possible before trying to get them off.
That is a basic explanation based on what I know but I am by no means an expert. So...I hope that helps in your decision making.

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
My nails grow sickly long.. So I'm going to get the uv gel.. I never had it done before.
If anyone has had this done could you FM me to let me know how you liked it? And roughly how much it is?

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
I've been wondering about this also...
I did some acrylic nails like 8 years ago and hated them, never did it again. For my wedding though I do want nails that wont chip or break and polish that will stay on so I was think about getting Silk Wrap. Not sure though, everyone tells me go natural because my nails are nice all that stuff destroys your nails.
I heard someone mention on the BHB boards last week about a place called Dashing Diva, they do some type of nail that will last 2 weeks and it comes off and its not damaging. I'm gonna look into it. Maybe you should check it out.

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
i usually get the permanent french. but i stopped getting them done in December to let my nails breath. I bite my nails so getting them done prevents me from doing so. I am getting a permanent french next week

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
I use to have fake nails like 6 years ago... lol.. I do love they way they look when they are well maintained and not crazy plus you don't have to worry about your polish chipping off in a few days but I like the look of natural nails a lot better now.

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
I usually just have my natural nails but I will be getting acrylic tips for my wedding so that they stay in perfect condition. I also don't want to have to worry about my nails on my HM.

well, i had acryllic nail in HS, and i sorta hate them now. i don't like when they look really thick (and fake). i had silk done once to repair a nail and i liked that even less, so i never went for a full set. i've never even heard of the gel thing. what is that?
my plan was to go regular french manicure (natural), but lately i've been tossing around the possibility of tips
Me too!!! It was like the hotest thing ever to have fake nails in HS! Now I look at them and I hate them! lol Silk wrap or IV gel is so much better for your nails though and they look better than acryllic too.

Re: Real Nails or Fake?
I hate fake nails in general (no offense) and I have really long natural nails so I get a mani every 10 days or so.
I've found that OPI polishes stay WAY better than Essie does. Also, top coat that rocks is Seche Vite. Its amazing. If you use those your nails will rarely chip.
Essie, i'm convinced, is a SCAM!!!!!!!!!
