I just got engaged in Dec. 07' and we are just beginning our reception hall search. We are not set on a date. Thinking anytime from May-September. Leaning towards September. Wondering if anyone had reviews/prices for the following places:
1. Chateau La Mer 2. Lombardi's on the Sound 3. Milleridge Cottage 4. North Ritz Club 5. Crescent Beach Club 6. Venetian Yacht Club 7. Bridgeview Yacht Club 8. Westbury Manor 9. Douglaston Manor 10. Harbor Club
* I would prefer one wedding at a time, higher ceilings (tall family!), near water, bar INSIDE reception hall (big one - I been to too many weddings where everyone is gone at the bar the whole time - including myself ).
Thanks for your help!
Karen

I am getting married at Lombardi's on the Sound on 9/7/08-----which will be exactly 1 year before your date! I luved it there because it's on the water, 1 wedding at a time and has great food.

I vote for the Crescent Beach Club, but I'm a little biased! FM if you have any questions about the place!

I'm getting married at the Historical Thatched Cottage...highly recommended and meets all your criteria!
I would prefer one wedding at a time (check!) higher ceilings (not an issue. my fiance is 6'5) near water (view of the water from every room, outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour outside on the water if weather permits) bar INSIDE reception hall (in reception room)

We are having ours at the Crescent Beach Club. We always loved the restaurant. Food is amazing and the view is breathtaking.

I actually have a very different opinion of CLM...I think it is stunning...the food was incredible at the tasting, the people are wonderful and the view is great. Different strokes for different folks but I would at least go look at all of the places you are interested in regardless of the opinions on here! Good luck!

I recently booked CLM, because I was intrigued with the whole idea of arriving in a yacht. I was truly disappointed when I went back for a second visit to get an idea of how many guest could be seated comfortably. I agree! The carpet was horrendous and the bridal suite was not befitting for the bridal party. The entrance into the hall is not really breathtaking for my taste. I immediately requested my deposit back. Yet, that is solely my opinion.

My mom went to a wedding there where the B&G arrived by yacht... except it was pouring out that day so they had them covered with umbrellas and all the guests in the room couldn't see because the windows had fogged up!

Chateau La Mer is beautiful, affordable (I believe we were quoted around 75 for a sunday AM), and the ceiling is HIGH! It's absolutely beautiful!

I second Captain Bills. Great food, and on the water. Check it out. It's understated, not all gaudy and marble, if thats the look you are going for.

I would definitely check out Bridgeview. I am having my wedding there in June 09. My parents, FH and I fell in love with it. There doing renovations at the moment and where the reception is being held, one wall of the 'tent' are floor to ceiling windows overlooking the water!

I went to an amazing wedding at Thatched Cottage in Centerport this passed Sept. I wish I had seen this place much earlier because it was gorgeous and I would have loved to book there.

Re: Reception Hall Hunt Begins! Help!!!
I got married at Douglaston Manor, which I see is on your list- I have only wonderful things to say about them!! They're not on the water (on a golf course instead), but it has a great open feel there. The price is phenominal compared to a lot of other halls, it's technically not 1 wedding at a time, but if you're in the larger room (like I was) the likelihood of another wedding is pretty slim. I was the only party on the night of our wedding, so I had the place to myself!!
I also loved Milleridge Cottage!!!!! but the minimum was too high for me- 175 (we had 150 at the wedding).
