reception hall prices - long

Hello...I'm sorry if I'm posting so many posts regarding ways to save but this wedding business is tooooo expensive and we simply can't afford it. I'm ready to elope

I have two questions:

1) From your experience in hunting for reception halls what places quoted you from $40 -$65 per person?

2) If I go to these place 4-6 months before the time I want to get married do you think they will lower there prices significantly or maybe add things that can save me more money?

I need a place that holds approx. 200 guests, rather have an outdoor ceremony, I want a simple yet beautiful wedding...so I can get a nice arrangement (doesn't have to be big) for centerpieces, don't need a limo, won't have a bridal party, will have my wedding on a friday afternoon or Thursday evening. The video and photgrapher is the ONLY thing I'll pay top dollar for....I know the place I want will cost me $5000 for both(maybe less if I do it on a Thursday that price is for a Saturday. I'll do my own makeup. Simple hairdo...off the rack dress....you name it I'll do....

By the way these were ideas given to me by some of you girls...THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

I just want to have a memorable day

Check out the Milleridge Inn - Sat eve prices are discussed here:

Fri afternoon prices will certainly be closer to what you're looking for...

some of them probably will knock the price down if you book within a few months....
also, ask what they can provide in the way of decorations/centerpieces...
most halls have votive candles...some actually have floral arrangements for the tables, or candles...always ask what they have for the tables--centerpieces can get sooo expensive.
One more thing, a few girls have said that when they booked, they didn't do any add in's, they just signed the contract for the base price...and then when they sat down to finalize the menu (about a month before the wedding, then they negotiated prices on adding stuff on (like carving stations, raw bars, etc)...they made the required payments all along, and then at the end basically told the hall what they could afford to pay, and the halls knocked down the price on the extras...couldn't hurt, right
Also, check out Flowers by Liz...her quotes for my sisters flowers were lower than everyone else we looked at...

Re: reception hall prices - long

I lived on this site during planning: http://www.geocities.com/budgetvendors

To answer your questions, a few halls did have packages in the $45-65 range. The Oceanside Knights of Columbus comes to mind. I didn't look at it, but have seen pictures from weddings (cloddy was married there and it looked amazing) and I can't believe it's so affordable.

Also check out www.receptionhalls.com and www.weddingsitesandservices.com

As for 'short bookings', yes I found that halls will give you a discount. In fact, I booked short (in October for a May wedding) and took a cancelled date at Jericho Terrace. The price? $65pp. Of course once I added some things (like OT and a chocolate fountain plus chair covers) the price went up, but $65pp was a steal! Tell them your max and they will work with you - all places should.

Good luck and FM if you need further help!

I would if I have to...but I have always dreamed of an outdoor ceremony. I specifucally dreamed of trees all around me....FH's father passed away and his ashes were scattered in the ocean. So by a beach will make him so happy.

How about Brentwood Country Club? Also if you want to have your wedding in the off season you may be able to get within your price range. Good luck!

Re: reception hall prices - long

Swan Club was in the upper part of your price range for Sat or SUn afternoon in the summer, you could probably get a much lower rate in the off months.

I think Huntington Town House is also in that range.

I'm a huge fan of the Stewart Manor Country Club. They were extremely nice and the place is sooooo perfect for a low-key wedding.

Here's a couple pics from their site:

What about getting a permit and having it on a public beach? A beach with a gazebo or pavillion in case it rains...I know there are some like that in the town of huntington, and in centerport and northport...you'd have the permit expense, and then table and chair rentals...but you could do away with a lot by having it the beach because you'd have the ambience of the water...sea shells on tables for centerpieces (or bowls of goldfish)....a friend of mine had a party like this, and she catered it with grilled lobster tails and steaks and veggies (buffet style), thru a chinese restuarant. It wasn't chinese food, he just grilled the seafood and the steaks...they had thier own equipment, they brought in everything and set it up...and they were much less expensive than an actual caterer...

also, check out this site www.crowsnestrest.com
they do luau's, clambakes, and all inclusives, so they might have a really good price for you...and they include the chair/table rentals....

Off-season is Jan-March...that's pretty much the rule at every hall. However, you can do a Sunday day wedding for about $55 at many places. One that I loved was Majestic Gardens, I just had to have a night wedding. If you're flexible with time you might get better prices.
