what reception halls should I go look at? what does everyone recommend? I've been going all over the island looking as long as it's not the Hamptons or Montauk nowhere is really too far. I just don't want to miss anything.

Re: reception halls
First figure out your guest list. Then think about what you really want from a hall (outdoor cocktail area, on the water, in a park, etc). If you go looking at halls with no ideas your going to overwhelm yourself.

It depends:
What kind of a feel are you looking for? How many ppl? What price are you looking to pay pp?
not sure what kind of feel. at least 100 but probably no more then 150 people. and no more then $150 pp.
First, I would call your top places and find out what their minimum is. I found that a lot of halls on LI have a 175-200 person minimum for Saturday nights, so that helped me decide who I was going to see since I only wanted to guarantee 150.
wow didn't know that. if I really fell in love I might be able to get more people lol. I mean if I totally fell in love. or I might get lucky and have my whole family actually come from out of state. I just made an estimation on the amount of people coming but I know the price range can't be any higher
I don't even know who is supposed to be invited. what if you have friends but they aren't your closest friends do you still invite them? I am so worried I am going to offend people because with facebook nowadays and everyone with their status's or putting up pictures I'd never want anyone going omg why wasn't I invited?
enough rambling lol.
Definitely create a guest list. I thought I was going to have a small wedding, and my guest list right now is at 225! Granted, we only expect 150-175, but still! A guest list will help you figure out what type of halls you should see, and will help eliminate some right off the bat.
I'm actually booked at one of the halls on your list, the Hamlet in Mt. Sinai. My FH and I love it. If you have any specific questions about it, please FM me. I'd be happy to help.
I had a huge problem with this, i really wanted a saturday and i wanted one wedding at a time and for 150peope it was almost impossible, i was even looking for memorial day weekend and labor day weekend and it was still hard because people want the higher minimum. take a look at Douglaston Manor, Glen cove mansion, the woodlands, or the lessings mansions. alot of the converted mansions are not Huge so they allow you to have a lower minimum.
I don't mind another wedding as long as they are organized and I don't go running into the bride lol. if I really love a place I have many more friends i'm not that close to I can insist to invite just to make minimum lol. that's if I fell madly in love and had to have it. I went to douglaston manor last night. it was nice. I haven't seen gc mansion yet. woodlands was too much! they had a good price for the afternoon but on my wedding day I'd like to be able to sleep! lol. I just can't see my wedding over at 5 pm. what do I do that night then? just go home? just not for me. I can't even imagine having to get up at like 6 am. I think i'm going to check out one of those mansions today. Timber Point? depends what I get over to. I wish all the halls were 15 mins from each other lol.
I have to sit here and look at a map just trying to see what halls I can hit up after one another.

it's hard for me to figure out my guest list because most of my family is out of town. depending on how lives/jobs go is sort of on whether or not family flies to Ny. I mean what if in 2 years my cousin has a baby she probably won't be able to come lol. I just know it won't be over 150 people though because me and fh don't even know that many people lol.
it's been good so far looking at everything because I start to see what I like and don't like. though I'm still not sure yet exactly what I want. I'm hoping I'll know once I see it.

Sit down and make a guest list of everyone your inviting. NOT who you think is or isn't coming. Like you said, things can change in 2 years. People change jobs, make new friends, lose old friends etc. Always guarantee a little less then you think b/c if you give them a guarantee of 150 you have to invite AT LEAST 190 people. From what it sounds like I would guarantee 125 or 100. That will knock many halls off your list to begin with. At this point, don't worry about inviting people JUST to make your min. This is something you should be thinking about 1 month to the wedding once your RSVP's are coming in and you get a REAL idea of who and how many are coming. I'd also sit and make an entire wedding budget first to see how much $ you have to play around with. That will also put it in perspective how much you want to pay p/person. And remember, this doesn't include tax, tip, gratuity, or vendor meals.

do vendor people go towards the minimum? lol. probably a stupid question but I thought to ask. most halls I have been to always have that smaller room for the 125 minimum and that seems good to me. fh has a huge family at around 60 people and they will all definitely come. I keep joking it's going to be his whole family and then my parents, friends. yet my aunts insist they will all come up. who knows. everyone did come up for my cousins wedding at fp terrace. that was in a december too and it was freezing! oct will be much nicer
my parents are paying for everything except the rd. they just asked me to not make it over $150 pp. but not to go with the cheapest rh ever either. I'm hoping to find something I love in between.
I wish every place gave their exact price. instead I have to guess that every place probably is an extra $20 pp. until I sit down and actually do the math.
