registry questions... what are the limits?

Okay girls... in the next month i'm going to go register with my FSIL at Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn & Linens N Things.

My FH and i are going to be building a house in the next few months and so i was wondering... what can we register for and what is overboard?

Can i register for light fixtures (bathroom), bedside lamps, bathroom fixtures (towel rack, medicine cabinet-mirror thingy, etc)? I mean what is the limit?

hmmmm....not sure about this one. i'd say ask for home depot or lowe's gift certificates.

Yes I agree with this!

I've been to a few showers since mine and girls have put a lot down and some of them were pricey too.

I held back when I was doing mine feeling a little funny putting things that might have been too expensive or something I might not get a lot of use out of. And now I reget not putting a little bit more down or different things. For example like more cookware -- those are expensive and something you will NEED.

I registered to Home Depot and Sears. I need garden tools, shed ($$$), and gift cards I can used towards home improvement.

If they cannot buy the whole item you need, they can give you a gift card so you can apply towards that big purchase. That's what we are doing with our garden shed. It's too expensive for only one person to purchase by themself.

I know but i feel bad. I've seen some people's registry and i was like... what do they need all those expensive things for and 'are they kidding me!' Now i've become that person. I always thought i'd register for a bunch of cheap stuff, but it's not turning out that way. Although i will say, i'm not registering for fine china so that's one less thing. But so far i have a $500 vacuum, a $100 blender, $200 cookware, $80 toaster, $160 down comforter, $180 duvet cover, and the list goes on. I feel sort of bad.

That's it? Oh honey, I got you beat. Don't feel bad, you'd be surprised at the generosity of others. Things are coming off my registry and it's most of the big stuff. I'm worrying if I'll be getting any of my non-stick spoons and turners!

I think the key thing to remember is to register for items in ALL price ranges. That way, everyone can get what you want and only spend what they personally can afford.
I too have registered for a $500 vacuum and $200 comforter, but I have also registered for $10 and $15 candles.
People will buy what they want, just make sure they have enough choices from the registry.

Most places will give you 10% off to complete your registry of anything you may not have gotten for your shower. Don't know if Home Improvement stores do this though.

yep exactly-- and i want discounts on everything!! not sure if other stores do this but macy's does and that is where i am registered

i would register for anything that you want, not only will it give people more to choose from but you will be getting stuff that you actually need or maybe GC to each of the stores instead of items. IMO go register like crazy!!!

Yes, I registered awhile ago. I did all my stuff online at Target and some online at BB&B. But I did drag Bry there one day I recommend NOT doing that You can check it out if you like

stores don't like to SHOUT things like 10% off anything you put on registry b/c then people get the idea in their head to register for a $2500 couch and then the store will have to take off $250 hahaha... so they usually save that little t-bone for last if you are having trouble deciding between two places or something (so they use it to rope you in) but it's not something i'm sure that they announce in order to save them money-- stores and their cheap tactics!! lol tisk tisk

Yeah usually you find out at the end unless you read everything the give you.
