rehearsal dinner? night before?

FH's family is pushing to have the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. I am worried I will be really tired the next day (the RD is in Oyster Bay and my parents' house is in Port Jefferson, where I'll be spending the night). How long do they tend to go on for? If the RD is at 7:00, is it realistic to hope that it's over by 9-9:30?

FIL's are being major PIA's... they seem to not care that the BRIDE would like to be well-rested and relaxed

How many of you are having the RD the night before the wedding?

It's like, because FIL's are paying for the RD (which, is very generous of them since it's going to be very expensive), they get to choose when it's going to be. I mean, they KNEW that my whole BP and family are from the Port Jeff area and yet they decided on a RD venue in Oyster Bay regardless. Fine. I just don't want everyone hung over and exhausted the next day! Myself and FH included!!!!

Re: rehearsal dinner? night before?

We are having ours the night be4 as well,.The Rehersal starts at 6:30 and they say it runs about a half hour so we are planning on doing dinner 7:30 to 10:30 so that this way everyone will be home no later then 11:30 ... I dont think its going to be much of a problem, But i know my group that will be there are not BIG drinkers so i dont think we have to worry about ne one being hung over for the wedding. I want to be around everyone the night be4 the wedding i dont want to be laying in bed at like 9:00 alone and worrying about the next day ya know. This way i will get to hang out n have a good time & not stress about the Big Day,and by the time we get home hopefully i will just pass out! hehe

Re: rehearsal dinner? night before?

Try not to worry too much about it. I attended a RD that was the night before the wedding. I think the rehearsal started at around 6:30 or 7, with the dinner immediately following. After everyone ate, the bride and groom presented the BP with their gifts. Once everyone finished coffee and dessert, people said their goodbyes/thank yous/well wishes to the bride and groom and called it a night. I don't remember the exact time that everything wrapped up, but I'm fairly certain we were back to our room by about 9:30-ish.

Re: rehearsal dinner? night before?

there is no way I would have mine the night before because I know myself, and I want to be well rested the night before. We are having our RD on friday, and the wedding is Sunday. Is your wedding a sat or sunday wedding? will the church do the RD 2 days before the wedding?

What's funny, is that we're not even doing a rehearsal at the church at ALL! Isn't that crazy? Because our CHURCH is in Port Jeff and the RD LOCATION is so far away!

Re: rehearsal dinner? night before?

I want mine the weekend before...my best friend just had her RD the night before and I was exhausted and left around 11 and it was still going on.. why not just tell the inlaws that some of your wedding party will not be able to make it that night... a little lie can't hurt, then you can say that you need all of the wedding party there so you can give gifts and the weekend before works better...or have FH tell his parents that the weekend before works better.

Re: rehearsal dinner? night before?

We're doing the RD the night before. The package at the restaurant is only 3 hours (6-9 pm) so we know we have to be done by 9. However, my ceremony is not until 6:30 pm the following day.

So where are you doing the rehearsal then? You should definatly be able to do it whenever you want, especially if it's not dependant on the ceremony location.
I think you're gonna need to unleash your inner bridezilla for this one girl loL!

Re: rehearsal dinner? night before?

i did it 2 nights before, i had things scheduled for the day before so thats why it couldnt be the night before. After the rehearsal we got to the restaurant around 8-8:30pm and we were done around 10:30-11pm. Our rehearsal started at 7pm though, but maybe you can try to do it earlier. The only problem with that can be people getting there after work. Our church was in queens but had bp in LI, queens and jersey but also many worked in the city so had to give them time to get there.

Why dont you tell them that you have to get your mani, pedi, waxing and other stuff done the day before. Or have a BM tell them that they were planning on surprising you the day before with all those things, see if they would be willing to change it

Re: rehearsal dinner? night before?

We are doing our 2 nights before. We're getting married on a Friday and doing it on the Weds night. I pushed for that because I really wanted to get a good night's sleep the night before, and be really well rested. FIL's were happy to oblige, luckily for me. I think if you make it early enough, like a 6pm start time, you'll be ok. That way it will be over by 8:30, plenty of time to get back out East and get to sleep. Good luck!!!
