about 3 weeks ago i boooked the beach club estate for my wedding, but it only holds about 160 people. we have been working on the guest list and got the list from both families and it turns out that the place will not be able to accommodate us. my fh called today to see if we can get our 1,000 deposit back, i know its non-refundable but they have one year and 2 months to fill in that spot, as it is, it was the only day left for next summer. he was rude and obnoxious on the phone, they jsut want to make money off of us even though we only had it saved for less than 3 weeks. sorry, jsut had to vent. now we loose 1,000 dollars. i would not reccommend this place or windows on the lake ( same owner) to anyone.

well if someone books the date you will get your money back . if not i think you can report them to BBB.
what we did before we looked at halls -we made our list and had our parents make a list of who they would invite and we based our min on the list ..

I'm so sorry you had to deal with this! That was totally uncalled for on their part. I'm happy to say, I haven't had any issues planning my wedding and in 1 month will write my full review of BCE.
Hopefully someone will book the date and you get your money back, but I would keep hounding them for it.... keep calling and say, 'This is so and so and I haven't received my deposit back yet!'
I would put a complaint in to the BBB and Consumer Affairs also - it's not right, and they have plenty of time to book the place between now and then.
Good luck!
BTW: Make sure you have your max number of guests before booking another hall - makes a big difference.

It's just terrible that you had to deal with this. However, and it's not to be taken offensively - you could minimize your guestlist or book a hall according to your guestlist.
We promised a minimum of 120, our place fits 150, and we are MAKING SURE that we don't have more than that.
You fell in love w/the venue for a reason and picked it for a reason - I don't think your guestlist should have anything to do with it (after the fact.)
Good Luck, and I'm sure you'll get your 1K back.

Since the hall is in Suffolk, you may want to look into a county law about these things. I don't remember the exact details, but if you search the boards, I'm sure you'll find it.

We did. Our original hall was in Suffolk county and it was > 6mos prior to the wedding. Therefore, by Suffolk Law, they have to give you all but $100 or so back. If your catering hall/reception site is not in Suffolk, I'd say just read your contract and see what the deal is. I think a lot depends on how close the date is, but most of the time, your deposit and any other $ you've paid is not likely to be coming back your way if the contract states it as such... Good luck!!!

That's a load of crap The Beach Club Estate is in Suffolk County and since it's over 6 months before your date so you can cancel and get all but $100 back. They must return your money within 30 days. Pay particular attention to 237-3 (3) - rebooking is presumed if it's more than 6 months before the date.
Yeah! Go kdrainey!!!! I knew you'd find it!

I would send them a certified letter and hold on to the receipt from sending it certified so you will have proof that they received you letter to cancel and get your refund if you need to take legal action. Hope it doesn't come to that!! Good Luck!

I feel for you. They can be a rough bunch to deal with. You do have the suffolk county Law behind you but that doesnt mean they are going to give in easily. Get your paperwork in order and be persistant. Maybe you can move it over to WOTL they can accommadate more. Good luck to you. :) FM me with the situation

At the Jericho Terrace they also kept my thousand dollars. They said the first thousand goes to administrative fees. Even if they book the date I wont get my $ back. :(
