Review of wedding dress shopping

Review of wedding dress shopping

I went to Valentina's in Brooklyn and they were very very nice. A little boutiquish but they do have dresses on the side you can look through.

I told her what I liked and she brought me out exactly what I liked. I tried on about 6 dresses. The thing I didnt like (and maybe its just me because I am clueless on dress shopping) is she wouldnt tell me the designer of the dress. It is the stores policy not to tell you who the designer is until you put down a downpayment.

There was 1 dress where everyone ooed and aaahed and told me 'yes yes this is the dress' and I just smiled. I didnt feel it. I was like yea its nice. And everyone (my mom, cousin, best friend) was telling me how gorgous I was. Evern total strangers in the store were like oh my god you are are so beautiful. I was like yea ok thanks. I just didnt feel it.

I know what you girls mean by having that gut feeling. I just wasnt having it today. Nothing was giving me that Oh my god this is the dress and I dont care if its a million dollars.

We then went to another place, Kelly's Kreations and they were ok. They had same thing, one dress that was really pretty and very very different and I just didnt feel like a 'princess'

I wasnt feeling it and I was so exhausted.

We are going to go again April 26 to a place in Lynbrook.

Chippa, don't worry, my first few times were the same way. I liked every dress, they looked good on me, but I didnt get the FEELING. It took me about 6 dress shops and MANY dresses to find the ONE.
Don't worry

Melissa: I went to a bunch of stores and ALL the stores told me the name of the designer. I would've stayed away from a place that wouldn't tell me the name of the designer until I put down a deposit.

Good Luck with your search

Re: Review of wedding dress shopping

Chipp...I got my bridesmaid dresses at Valentina. They have bwonderful to work with thus far.
Valentina herself is also a dress designer, and can make you literally anything you want. She's designing a very pale blue sheath with a 9 foot train made out of a lace overlay (all pale blue) for a friend of mine. It's absolutely amazing. They are boutiquish...but in good way. They really don't have much pretentiousness about them, with of course the exception of the no designer name rule, which a lot of places have. It ****s I know. But their service is top notch, and they stock a lot of gowns you can easily find info on in magazines. Their prices don't hurt either!

You are right to wait. The dress has to be right for you! You will know it! I tried on my dress 3 different times (at 3 different shops) before I finally agreed. Good Luck!

I'm glad you had a better experience than last time! You know I love Valentina's, when I went there I had a similar experience...everyone was oohing and aahing over this one dress I had on but I wasn't in love with it. I haven't been to a store yet that told me the designer of the gown when I was trying it on. Fortunately, I have been reading bride magazines for so long I can usually tell the designer just by looking at the gown...but if you find a place that will let you know designer names up front let me know, it would save me from my usual guessing game!

I went to a lot of stores- they all told me the designer. I don't think I would like that- if they refused to tell me.

Thanks girls.

Jenn I am so used to being on this board it just comes natural, log onto LIW, go to NWR, post.

I am a little tired of all the dress search shopping and my dad was so cool he told me dont worry you'll know the dress when you put it on. you have time and dont worry you'll find the dress and when you do it will all be worth it. So I am hopeful.

I had valentina herself helping me and she was so nice. She told me she designs dresses and the dress that everyone ooohhed and ahhhed was one of valentina's.

edited to add: I didnt like that too much that I didnt know the name of the designer. But when I was in the dressing room and she was getting me more dresses I did peak inside the dress and looked at the tags.

I am hopeful, and going April 26 to look again.

I can not believe that you would go from Valentina's to Kelly's. They are totally two different kind of people and shops. I am glad that your experience was so wonderful at Valentina's. My appointment is Saturday. I will let you know how my experience was after that. Thanks for this post.

Re: Review of wedding dress shopping

I heard terrible things about Lestons and going to Kelly's was literally a last minute decision. I made the appointment at 1:30 for 4:30.

Lisa I am going to send you an FM as well

The Valentina designs are very pretty and very different. The one dress everyone ooed and aahed was a valentina.

The more I think about it, the more I think I want to go back to Valentina's and try on the dress everyone ooed and aahed. I liked it and everyone I knew loved it, and even though I didnt get gut feeling of it at the store, I just havent been able to stop thinking of it.
