Ring Bearer's Age

I don't know who to chose as a ring bearer. His mom feels FH cousin from PA who is 4 years should be the ring bearer. We barely see him and when we do he's shy around.

I want FH's nephew, who is 11, to be the ring bearer. His mom feels his nephew is too old.

What do you ladies think?

Re: Ring Bearer's Age

I think 11 is more Jr. Groomsman age. I think 8 is pretty much the upper limit for a ring bearer, but it's up to you

Awww really!

His nephew means so much to me, and in my eyes he's a miniature version of my fiance.

Re: Ring Bearer's Age

Our ring bearer is FH's godson and he is 10...he was hinting like the day after we got engaged that this is what he thinks he should do in the wedding...LOL... He is really excited! We also have a his brother as our junior groomsmen and he is 13. So IMO it's fine. it's your day you can bend the rules a bit

Re: Ring Bearer's Age

There are no set rules. I think you should 100% choose your nephew as a RB. Go with what makes you and your family happy :) You choose your wedding party, not because of their age, but because of who is closest to your heart.

Re: Ring Bearer's Age

Personally, I think an 11 year old is too old to be a ringbearer. I'd say the cut off age for me is like 7-8.

Re: Ring Bearer's Age

I don't think there's such a thing as 'too old.' We associate ring bearers and lfower girls with being really little, but who says that has to be so?

FH's son will be 11 at the time of our wedding and he asked if he could be the 'ring boy,' as he calls it. He is so excited about it and I wouldn't dream of saying he's too old.

It's you wedding and it sounds like this is what you want to do. Go for it!

Re: Ring Bearer's Age

Maybe the nephew can be a junior GM. I think 11 is too old as a ring-bearer. That being said, you don't HAVE to have one! I'm having FH's nephew (3yrs) as RB and his niece (4yrs) as a flower girl. If he didn't have a niece or nephew, we wouldn't have either!

ITA - our ring bearer is FH's nephew (who is already calling me Aunt Jen - love!)... he is 8 but almost as tall as me, lol so he looks a lot older. He'll be 9 at t he wedding but that's still too young to be a jr GM I think
