Ring Cleaning

Ring Cleaning

My e-ring is in dire need of some cleaning. Do you girls clean it yourself, or have it done at a jeweler's? FH got my ring at the diamond district in the City, so I won't go there to have it cleaned - there's a jewelry shop just down the road from me. How much should it cost to have it cleaned there if I'm not buying anything at the time?

Re: Ring Cleaning

I go to Zales to get it cleaned cause that's where FH got it and it is free.

But I remember FH gave me a ring 2 yrs ago (not anything like an e-ring) but i would get it cleaned often and sometimes places just do it for free....

you can always ask...thats what I would do before hand when i cleaned my other ring....how much do you charge and alot of the times they said oh we'll do it for free...

Oh okay, my mom goes to that jeweler all the time and they clean HER ring for free, but I thought that was just because they knew her! I didn't want to barge in there and say, 'here's my ring - you're gonna clean it and I'M not going pay for it. What do you think of that?'

Good to know it's standard.

Re: Ring Cleaning

I get my ring cleaned and polished for free at the jeweler where FH bought the ring. I normally do that every other week. If it needs a little TLC in between, I clean it my self with the cleaner I got from the jeweler.

I bought a ring cleaner from BBB,I think it's called exquisite jewelry? It's in a red bottle and it works great

I clean it myself. I have the ionic cleaner and also the red jar of cleaner. I alternate between the two of them.

I clean my ring about once a week and before special occasions. I am a freak!!

I just love how it sparkles it is after I clean it!

Re: Ring Cleaning

I get my ring cleaned by our jewler that FH got my ring from. He doesnt charge us anything and said I can come in and have it done anytime. Im sure theyre just being super nice to us cause we've spent so much money at this jewler. Plus, its just a local, family owned place.

Re: Ring Cleaning

you can walk into basically ANY jewelry place and they will clean it for you for free.

i get mine cleaned like every 2 weeks cause im just OCD haha. i feel bad so sometimes ill pretend to look at their wedding bands and then they feel like 'oh ill clean it and while shes waiting, maybe she will see something she likes and eventually buy from here!'

its a good idea to get it cleaned every so often, so when youre at a mall - get er done!!

Re: Ring Cleaning

My mom had bought me an industrial jewlery cleaner from jc penny and it is the best thing EVER it had a compartment on top that you soak your jewlery in and it has a steamer that steams your ring. I dont have to go out to get it cleaned ever and my ring is always sparkly. I highly reccomend it to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i went to my jeweler...they did it for free....they just put it in this thing thats like super hot water with whatever solution...then the lady brushed it and dried it and it looked sooooo amazing.

she told me the following....get water (doesnt have to be hot) and put like 2 drops of dish soap (dawn)...just make sure to have a lot of water and not a lot of soap so it doesnt get filmy...and let the ring soak overnight...it loosens up the dirt...then brush it with a super soft tooth brush in the morning and pat dry...

Oops, sorry, just got back to my computer and I wanted to thank everyone for all the suggestions!

Does Dawn work better than other diswashing liquids? I think Dawn is what I have, but everyone's mentioning it so specifically, you've made me curious!

Re: Ring Cleaning

I've heard white vinegar makes it sparkle really well...and diluted Mr. Clean....that's what my friend's mom told me and she works for a jeweler....be careful getting your rind steamed elsewhere though...some places won't do it because you run the risk of damaging the ring...it is able to crack from the pressure..

Re: Ring Cleaning

I use jewlery cleaner. But honestly, if you just wash yourhand with soap and water, it comes out just as clean (in my opinion)

Re: Ring Cleaning

FH when he bought me my e-ring and also a promise ring (before we got engaged) put a insurance policy with the jeweler so that I can get them both cleaned every 6 months for 3 years.. it only cost him $10 extra per ring and if anything is wrong (like a loose stone, etc.) they fix it for free.

He got the rings in Roosevelt Fields.. the name of the jeweler is Heltzberg I think? Something like that .. can't recall offhand but they're super nice there.

Other than that I use jewelry cleaner.
