I prefer Mt. Sinai and Miller Place to Rocky Point personally, but it's a personal choice.

If that first link doesn't work, just click on school reports and select the school districts you want to compare. I love this site.

But, just to let you know, I know someone who student taught at Rocky Point and loved it (if that means anything to you...) Sometimes you can't go by the ratings.

That's really weird... We just met with an Agent from McKnight about an hour ago and she told us that Rocky Point has a excellent school district - along with Miller Place and Mount Sinai...

Re: Rocky Point School District
I'm not saying they're bad, but there are much better districts in the surrounding area IMO. And, just so you know, realtors tell you EVERY school is good, no matter how honest you think they are. They just want you to BUY A HOUSE!
I had a realtor that was appalled by the fact that I didn't think Longwood was an amazing school district bc according to him, people traveled long and far to move to Coram bc of their renowned school district. whatever. I guess it's a matter of opinion.
But seriously, Rocky Point ... is NOT bad. I just don't think it's the BEST. BUT .. I also think a child is going to get the education that their parents help them to get, regardless of the district. I know of people that are real ****-ups that went to great school districts and Harvard grads that went to 'not so good' districts. Plus, every school on LI is so amazing compared with the rest of the country. You really can't go wrong.
Yet another tangent....sorry.

Re: Rocky Point School District
We just bought a house in Rocky Point. I really like the area and to be honest wasn't focusing on the school district too much b/c we want to wait a few years to have kids and may not stay in this house by the time they would go to school. I was just surprised a bit b/c I had only heard good things about it.

I have only heard good things about it from people also. It's just the percentile thing that scares me away a little. You know what though? That whole area is becoming so much more popular (like Manorville), so I can guarantee you the district's ratings will go up. Again, it IS a good school district, it's just not top of the line on Long Island. You have at least 7 years to think about it. I wouldn't stress. I love the area and am jealous that you are living there! Congrats!

Matron--just so you know, it is not that agents just want you to buy a house, it is actually very illegal for a Realtor to tell someone that one school district is better than another. This would be steering which is illegal. All we can do is give the customers the information for them to disseminate themselves! Your second part is very true however, all the schools on LI are amazing compared with the rest of the country!

Wow! It's interesting that you say it's illegal for realtors to say whether districts are good or bad bc every realtor I've dealt with (and there are MANY) have said something about the district being good.

Re: Rocky Point School District
I think we can say a school district is good but we can't compare one district to another one. We are supposed to direct any questions like that to the Newsday rankings, etc. and let the customer determine for themselves. That is why most agents will tell you a school is good!

Re: Rocky Point School District
It just cracks me up. We could go to the ghetto and so many realtors still have it as part of their shpeel, 'The house is zoned in Ghetto School District, which as I'm sure you're well aware, is a great school district.' It's like, 'Whaaa??? ' I think some people just take what the realtors say as truth all the time! Don't get me wrong ... there are some honest ones out there, but you guys are influentional! You're like the house gods and godesses of Earth! LOL! Everything you guys say replays in our minds over and over again until it's ingrained!

You're cracking me up! Should I change my avatar to 'house god!' Actually, if a house is in a district I personally don't think is all that good, I just avoid saying anything at all. If asked, all I can do is send them to other sources. The state sends testers out to us where they pretend they are house buyers but really work for the state and are testing us to see if we do anything illegal or unethical (such as steering). It really is a pain in the **** because we can't give our own opinions.

Wow! That's craziness! Realtors have to deal with so much. I would never be able to do it. Another realtor told us that a buyer told her off and threatened her because they had to pay some extra tax at their closing that she didn't tell her about. Also, the whole 'you have to be an advocate for the seller regardless of whether your the seller or buyer's agent' stuff blows my mind. Here's to you House God -- You deserve it for putting up with all of this crap. Now continue with your ethical, honest approaches and find me a home!

One more thing that drives me nuts (and I find humorous) -- the house condition ratings (Diamond +, Diamond, Mint, Wonderful, Fabulous, Fantabulous +, etc.) BAsically, if a house is rated just 'good' -- get your bulldozers out! Ok, I'll stop.
Signed,
Frustrated Home Seller/Buyer

One of my really good friends is a teacher in Rocky Point. She is amazing teacher!
She is so dedicated to her students, she tutors them after school, travels to one of her student's home to tutor him because he is sick and on chemo. She loves her students.
Also, I have met a few of her friends who are teachers in that district. They are a great group.

Actually, you do not have to be an advocate for the seller if your agent is working as a buyers' agent. That means, if you, as a buyer, sign a contract with your agent that they will represent you, they can then negotiate on YOUR behalf. The commissions are still paid out of the proceeds of the sale.
More importantly, where are you looking and I will happily find you a home!

I think it's a good school district. Also, more and more young professionals are moving out to that part of Suffolk county because the houses are more reasonable.

Re: Rocky Point School District
I've met quite a few elementary school teachers from Rocky Point. I've taught inservice classes for teachers for two summers. Anyway, they made a strong impression on me. They were very well trained and knowledgable about current reading and writing philosphies. They all appeared to be very dedicated teachers.
