I can't believe no one on the boards is ahead of me!!! Hopefully someone will come along! AHHH I can't be the first!! I'm still anxiously waiting for some more 08 pics from those lovely ladies! We actually had our tasting before we booked. Well, we booked immediately after dinner that night lol. I think Gerard said you have your tasting and pick your menus 8-12 weeks out. I called today to ask him a bunch of things about rentals (like plate chargers, cushion covers, etc.) and also tell him about the groom's cake. Some places charge plating fees for outside cakes, etc. and I hadn't asked that when we booked bc it's a surprise for FH. I really hope they're laid back about it. I guess I could always price out a cake with them, but I got a great quote and great service so far from Audrey's and I'd really like to go with them. He wasn't there today unfortunately, so I'll have to call tomorrow.
So are you getting a wedding cake from their baker? I just want to make sure I understand this correctly.. just the Grooms Cake is from an outside baker? I'm thinking I MIGHT do a grooms cake as a surprise as well, but I won't decide for sure until we are closer to the date. Also, I kept asking about linens and stuff.. and all he ever told me was, 'we have so many colors, etc' but never showed me anything. So, I've been contemplating renting linens and stuff... but I didn't start hard core looking into it at all. Have you seen any of their linens? Is there a particular reason you are considering renting them?
If and when you get answers from him, can you pretty please share them with me? Thanks!

Yeah, we're getting the wedding cake from them, and I'm hopefully getting the groom's cake from Audrey's as a surprise. I've seen it set up for a wedding a few times now, but I've only seen the room using all the standard ivory linens. They seem very nice. I've never seen their selection of colors or anything yet. I'm thinking about renting cotton cushion covers (very simple with 2 ties on back) because the seats of the chairs have seen better days in my opinion (please no offense to anyone, I'm just anal retentive), and I've been quoted $1 per cushion, so it's worth it for me to do it. I'm also going to get gold plate chargers for each setting. I LOVE how this looks. I'm waiting to hear back from Gerard about if they ever use them, and how many people you can seat with them, etc. bc they add a few inches to each setting. My mom is a nutjob and at the beginning was insisting on gold chiavari chairs (wacko!!! The Royalton offers GORGEOUS redwood chiavaris already) so I priced that out and at $7.50 a chair would be over $1,000 Yeah, not happening.

What is a plate charger? If it's what I think it is then I want this in silver. Is this the plate that goes under the plate with the food on it?
Do you mind sharing who you were quoted the $1 per cusion from? Only because I will be looking into this very shortly. What are chiavaris? I only saw the chairs they already had there... and I remember them being a dark wood color. I saw pics of the exact colors and everything I want.. and the chairs they had were the same but they were silver... so I've been thinking about that a lot too! But I think they might have rented chairs? IDK. I just don't know too much about this topic at all. I need to educate myself on it!
I saw them set up for a teenagers party once.. and they did it all Hot Pink and Black. It looked very nice. But I didn't get as close of a look at it as I would have liked. From afar it looked awesome!

Yes, that's what a plate charger is. I'm actually having to BUY the chargers, because it's like $4-$8!!!!! each to rent them, and I can buy them wholesale through my contacts through work for MUCH cheaper. Classic Party Rental in the city is who quoted me for the seat covers. The chairs the Royalton has are called Chiavari chairs. They are a red/wood type color. The ones you want are Silver Chiavari chairs. I got quotes for the gold ones which I assume would be the same for the silver ones, at $7.50-$8.50 per chair. For us that would be over $1,000 which I think is nuts for us. But who knows, my mom might pitch a fit and she's paying, so we'll see!

Ok.. so Now I am on the hunt for cheap plate chargers! ha ha! Can you just get all the rentals from the same place? Although I am not paying that much for chairs! ha ha! I will have to see what I can dig up! Too bad I need silver and not gold plate chargers or I would offer to buy them from you when you are done with them (unless you have other plans for some 200 or so plate chargers! ha ha). Ok now you got me all thinking about this!

Re: Royalton Brides....
I'm getting married at the Royalton on August 7th!!!
Also, I totally agree about the seat cushions. I brought that up awhile ago on the boards. The more I think about though the less sure I am people are really going to be paying any attention to the chair they're sitting on. I love the idea of the plate charger. Have you seen the clear ones with the gold beads- I love those!

hee hee! I coudn't resist saying your name! And it was even harder bc we spell it the same way! ha ha! IDK yet. John and I are both very picky eaters.. so we are bad people for a tasting. His parents are just always happy about everything, but they should come, and my mother and grandmother will probably come (father is not in the picture)... and maybe someone else who likes to eat a lot of different things. I'm not positive yet though. I don't know how many people go to these things. I don't even know what to expect. Will they call me for it? Or do I have to contact them for it?

I would think they would accommodate bride and groom, and both sets of parents, or a total of 6 people. Any more than that I can't see them doing. We were 4 people, FH and I, and my parents.

Re: Royalton Brides....
Are you guys sleeping there? At first I considered it.. but i feel kinda strange doing that and I don't know why. Also, I am probably going to have an after party at a hotel close by. Does anyone know of any hotels nearby with a bar? Nothing too expensive.. just a place to party a little more and crash! ha ha!

Re: Royalton Brides....
We're planning on staying there- the room is so pretty and like you said Kerri, we'll be so tired! I wanted to ask them about having some friends hang out upstairs after too- we are adding a half hour to the ch and to the end of the party but after that instead of leaving to go party at a hotel or something i wanted to have some people hang out in one of those rooms upstairs- what does everyone thing the chance of that being o.k. is?

It seems sooo easy to stay there.. and I kinda wish we were.. but I feel bad leaving the BP and everyone at the hotel.. plus I don't want to miss out on the after party part. I get a little torn.. but ultimately I'm pretty sure we will try to book a hotel. I don't want anything too crazy expensive. I know it's our wedding night.. but we will be off to Bora Bora and Moorea on Sunday.. so the last thing we need is to drop a bunch of $$$ on a hotel for that night. BP has to stay out there.. it's too far for them to drive home drunk. Most of the BP is from Queens.

Hmm, I didn't think of that. I don't know though. Interesting idea. I like it! If you ever do ask, would you mind posting or FM me their answer? I am interested in what they would say. Just to keep my options open. TIA!
